I am going to start a new thread: Does Darnold give you the confidence that he can be his own Back-Up QB and QB Coach?
NOT McCown--he stunk in 3 games last year, and you sign a backup QB to play when your #1 goes down, not to be another QB coach.
Whoever they get, he can't be a potential "starter in waiting", which will only serve to have Sam looking over his shoulder and be a distraction. Sign someone who can hold the fort until Darnold returns.
I think it's time to move on from McCown. When pressed into action, he didn't play great last year and he will be 40 years old this season.
Davis Webb and grab someone in the 7th round or udfa. Let sam and gase work it out and try to grow draft picks
I'm not saying McCown is any good. I'm saying... a) 40 y/o? Who cares? The point is to keep him one more year solely to help steward Sam through the regime change. b) Until you're actually contending for a title, what difference does it make how "great" your backup plays?
Get a 7+ year vet in. Someone who can push darnold in the film room. If we need to play out 2nd qb were fucked anyway. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
I get your point, but even a self confident player can get unnerved with someone breathing down their neck. Sam's going to have some bad games still, and we don't need the controversy.
Plus McCown would do a lot for Darnold's development, and I do believe he is actually a decent QB if needed....at the very least experienced and competent. I'm hoping he comes back for 1 more year. 40 at QB isn't really crazy anymore either. And we have Webb, who could potentially move past McCown on the depth chart.
There was a thread here with talk about playoffs. Signing McCown would mean if Darnold missed even a couple weeks, you can say goodbye to any playoff hopes
