Seahawks in cap hell. Clark is 25 years old and is a very productive player. Obviously, we have the cap room. I am not sure what is would take to get him. Maybe a 3rd rounder this year and a second rounder next year. Thoughts?
Just read Chandler Jones trade deal. It was for a second round pick and a player, just for comparative purposes.
Jets need more draft picks not fewer. I like the idea of signing Barr and drafting Josh Allen. Or if Bosa & Allen are off the board trade back and draft Brian Burns while getting more picks to work with. I think a combination of Barr and Allen would drastically change the D for the better by giving the Jets a lot of flexibility. Both guys can rush the passer and cover, which would give Gregg Williams a lot of options.
We aren't trading for a pass rusher. There are several options in FA and the draft is stacked at edge. This won't and shouldn't happen.
The Pats just traded for Michael Bennet and Cleveland just traded for Olivier Vernon. All options should be considered I think.
A third and a two seems too high a price especially with the Jets picking so high in each round this year AND a new contract on the horizon for him.
You shouldn’t trade for players that you also have to pay big money to unless they are transcendent type players.
I'm open to trading for one of these franchised players. However, it would have to be after the draft so that the trade would be for 2020 picks. The idea being that the new player would help the Jets be better in 2019 so that the 2020 pick is high. See the Bears trade. I'd also prefer they go after Trey Flowers first, which would only cost cap space and not picks.
The compensation would be much different in comparison to the players you just mentioned and our draft position and lack of picks. Along with the number of edge players in FA. Is why it wont happen.
Bennett is 33 and was traded for nothing. Giants couldn’t pay Vernon and are in full rebuild mode and got back a 30 year old guard. Context is everything.
No we don't. We don't have the draft picks and have too many needs/holes on this team to trade for a player who has had one year of stellar production, especially when there are players in FA who are as good or better than we can get for no draft picks. Trading for him would be stupid imo.
Using 2020 picks is no good, either. That is the draft that is supposed to be stacked with OTs, OL, WRs and RBs. Why would we trade draft picks from that draft to get a pass rusher when we can sign one in FA and/or draft one in this draft, and then not have the picks we need next year to fix our OL and put more talent around Sam?
The players that you are referring to probably will be going to teams that have more pieces in place (a la Cleveland) and we would be left with a 'B' quality free agent. We have an extra 3rd round pick this year from the Bridgewater trade so you would be essentially trading next years 2nd rounder for an impact player. If Seattle would even go for that.
Imo we are probably going to trade out of 3rd pick this year which might include 2020 picks. Would you consider it then? You still have to 'hit' on those draft picks which is certaintly no guarantee.
More defense in the first round. Ugh. Trade down and hope there’s an OT worthy of the pick on the board.
I can’t believe still people play the “omg we always take defense in the first round” card. We have a massive need on the edge. There are two very very very good edge rushers in this draft. It’s looking likely one will be there. We would be absolute idiots to pass him up.
