Referenced from that article, who would you draft based on this picture? What if there was no picture and you just looked at production?
Fair point . This is the first offseason he does not have QB on his mind and that brings stress on its own merit . That being said he won’t have that as an excuse this off season.....
Better question. Is one a 1st round pick that could possibly bust and the other a 6th round pick that might stick around for 10 years never scaring anyone but consistently making clutch 3rd down catches and being a safety blanket for Sam?
It has nothing to do with schools true, but if I asked you to pick 5 schools that you would like to draft from, what would they be. Mine would be Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, USC. My point is the crop of players are better from the big schools than smaller schools. It's ok to take a shot on a small school guy, but 4 in one draft is reaching a bit IMO.
The crop of players whose last name is Smith is better than the crop of players whose last name is Burtwistle. But if Amadeus Birtwistle is the best player in the draft, I'm taking him.
Clearly NFL talent is more likely to come from those schools but those schools are also packed with talent so how good really is each individual player?
Everyone has said in this thread what I've been saying about him for years now. Don't get cute, make sure to pick the highest rated guys on most of the experts' draft boards because we sure as shit know Mac's draft board ain't worth shit. His ability to evaluate talent is piss poor. It's put up or GTFO time for Mac.
I agree with it having nothing to do with the schools. If I had to pick only five schools from which I could draft, my schools would be different. Mine would be Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and either Iowa or Wisconsin.
And at different times it would have been Florida Florida State and Miami. Picking players based upon school is stupid. Never pick a QB from USC!
This is the first year in as long as I can remember that I did not watch ONE second of the combines and I have not looked much if at all at Free Agency and I am not looking forward to the draft at all. Thanks Woody, Chris and a special shout out / Thank You to Mike Mac.
NFL teams actually spend very little on scouting. $2-3 million per year. Avg 7 regional scouts. It has to be tough for a scout to have an entire area to cover. Say the South East. Too many teams for one man to effectively cover. Teams get the vast majority of their info from two scouting organizations that they use , National and Blesto. They may have a regional scout focus on certain players based on the reports from those two combines. Most corporations spend 10-15% on R&D. The NFL 1-2%. You would think they would invest more. As far as the Jets, until we have an identity on offense and defense, how do we identity a player that fits what we are trying to do? That's really what separates the best teams in the league from the rest.
