Mine is about done. Its a Netgear R8500 Nighthawk and now discontinued which makes me nervous. Been having intermittent Wireless 5G drops and strange double posts happening often around here. Firmware is up to date but I'm not sure Netgear actually solved the problem. Knowing that Netgear doesn't really support their gear after 1 year, I'm looking to change vendors instead of buying another problematic Router from them. I'm in a 3 story colonial roughly 4000 sq. ft. so I will need a Router with a good transmitter and range. Tri-band is fine but dual band is not a deal breaker. Budget is roughly $400 or less. I believe in making the investment as my home network is far from basic. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I should add that I've been looking at the ASUS AX-88U and some of the offerings from Linksys as they are Cisco's consumer division. I need good streaming performance via HD. I don't have any 4K movies yet to stream as I have them on UHD disc. I do need to be able to stream 1080P without buffer under run as all my movies are on a server. Cman
anything Asus. Those routers are built to last a long time. I've been using mines since 2011 and its still going strong. Previously had a Netgear and it died in 3 years. Make sure it uses the new standard AC protocol. An example is this : https://www.amazon.com/Tri-Band-Lag...1724122&s=gateway&sr=8-9&tag=wwwcanoniccom-20
Have this ASUS. No complaints from me: https://www.amazon.com/Dual-band-Du...s=asus+router&qid=1551724709&s=gateway&sr=8-3 Have this Linksys at work: https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WRT3200ACM/
Thanks guys! Just waiting for my bonus check to hit and I'll be making the purchase. I'm probably done with Netgear as I don't like their support policies at all.
