It is huge. Looking forward to seeing what Leonard Williams and Darron Lee can do when played in the correct position (hopefully). I never understood why teams would draft a guy like Williams with a high pick and play him in a 3-4 defense where the lineman just occupy blockers, or draft a speedy linebacker and play him INSIDE in a 3-4 (??????). But, that was Mac and Toilet.
So for the 4-3 I believe Leonard Williams and Lee will look much better IMO. They both also need a push to push their talents further and Williams should hopefully light a fire under their ass. Mac's draft classes stand to benefit if these two become good players. I do worry about Henry Anderson (couldnt play in the Colts 4-3) and Jenkins not being a fit. Anderson probably wont be resigned and Jenkins will probably play out his rookie contract on the cheap and then hit FA. With McLendon also probably not being resigned that means we are looking at 3 new defensive linemen including the pass rusher. Macs got his work cut out for him.
I'm sure if anyone can get Anderson and Jenk to fit, it's Williams. have seen enough ends placed at LB to last a lifetime, but Jenk has shown some ability to get to the QB.
We pick up every other teams rejects as coach. No wonder we're the laughing stock of the league. These Gase / Williams hires are an embarrassment. Like we haven't been embarrassed enough over the years. The "Butt Fumble" was a triumph by comparison.
Everyone: Williams is the perfect hire for this defense? You: This Williams hire is an embarrassment.
Shows how the majority can't always be right. Williams is a slime and a prick. It's an embarrassment to have this A-hole on our sidelines,
I'm sure you've rooted for players that have done for worse than Williams and never paid any penalty for it. This is a fantastic hire. One that should unanimously be celebrated.
Shit's goin' down at One Jet Drive! We've added a little crazy and a lot of aggressiveness on both sides of the ball and kept one of the best special teams coordinators in the game. I'm stoked! How can anyone not be? This is gonna be a whole different team and I'm looking forward to the next few years... Finally!
My biggest concern is: ill he and Gase be able to get along and not fracture the team along "O" and "D" lines? Certainly a massive upgrade over Bowles and Kacy's "D".
Williams and Shepard will both be fine in 43 roles. Shepard would benefit from a switch to an attacking 3T role instead of trying to be primarily a space eater. Lee should benefit from extra room the additional lineman provide to use his speed. Anderson, McClendon and Pennel have less of a role in a traditional 43. Jenkins May be able to stick as a strong side linebacker and situational pass rusher, but he really is not more than an average starter anyway. It should be a switch that helps out more valuable assets.
I happen to hate Williams due to his complete lack of any morality or integrity. I don't hate Gase. He just seems deranged.
This is great hire! Accountability on the defense is exactly what this team needs. Williams will be ruthless and call out them out when players take a play off or blow their assignments. Go out and bust some heads Jets!
The team can only hire someone who is available. They're either going to get someone who has been fired by someone; someone who "retired" and then changed their mind; or someone who never did held the job at this level before. So, who do you want?
