Absolutely,,,,,but the smart move would have been to fire Mac with Bowles to avoid what actually happened and to at least attempt to get this correct.I might make this my avatar "The Jets just took an open book test and failed "

I would love to have Rex as our DC.
D would instantly improve imo, but it would never happen.
Players would all side with Rex over Gase as soon as things went south.

Honestly Cman I don't think hiring McCarthy would undermine Mac.
It's not that difficult to judge performance of GM and HC independently. They have distinct roles.
As long as they are on same page it wouldn't have been a problem

Fair enough.. The issue comes in when its a judgement call that has to be made by Chris. There's gonna be a winner, and some resentment by the loser. Both guys on equal footing means they both have equal access. Just not a fan of the structure.

Yeah man I will probably have plenty of dark humor for awhile. Can’t wait for April to see how they will screw this up too.

I remember the Jets being pretty healthy during the Sal Alosi years. Too bad the guy was a head case.

It's the Jets--they'll hire Rob Ryan instead.

No. Bringing your old head coach back to work under your new head coach who everyone is not on board with is probably the worst idea of all time.

Ha I’m in the minority but I loved Rex...if we’re gonna suck (and we pretty much always do) might as well have a crazy head coach that’s entertaining and there’s no doubt he loved the jets

you are probably right, but now mac has his head in the guillotine also. if gase bombs, or goes public and says he doesn't have the players he needs to win,

the gm will get fired first, as soon as the fanbase storms atlantic yards with pitchforks and psl cancellations.

The problem is that, according to him, he sees himself as a head coach. He has said this in several interviews. Guys like that don't take coordinator positions anywhere.

it would be the reincarnation of the 1985 chicago bears, with gase as mike ditka

and rex as buddy ryan. although, buddy ryan was a jet as weeb's assistant when we won the super bowl.

so rex would need to be the assistant hc/c.
