I'm going to go out on a limb here and say towards the end it was 60-40 McCarthy's "fault" the relationship failed but up until that? Not sure there was much of a problem. Jeff Saturday said McCarthy is not great with veteran players he's been around for a long time--but is great with youngsters. I'm guessing things were quite fine until Rogers became more and more of a diva and McCarthy dug in with what he knew. If it takes 13 years for McCarthy to wear out his welcome and we consistently go to the playoffs and win a SB and Sam wins an MVP award or 3? Yeah, I'm good with that. Or maybe we can just suck cock for the next 10 years.
Bleh, sounds like this is trending towards reality They went with the safe route. The media will praise it and now the Jets get to say they landed a big time name that’s won a SB. Hard to complain. I just hope he brings a better staff than he had in GB.
I thought this too. Sam is 21. Say McCarthy does a decent, but not a great job for the next 4-5 years, Sam will still gain great experience and could be 26 and in his prime for the next young Whiz Kid Head Coach. It's a good risk to take. Safer than those other options.
Apparently we're going to bring in Peyton Manning as QB coach, Kingsbury as OC, Williams and DC, Jerry Rice as WR coach and Ray Lewis as LB coach. I'm also thinking we offer Usain Bolt a league minimum 1 year "show me" contract to come in as a burner WR. You know, because guys that are worth $50 million are dying to play for the Jets for nothing.
I would legitimately offer McCown the job at QB coach if he wants it. Hes got a great personal bond with Sam so there would be a comfort factor if he sticks around. Also, McCown has seen a ton of different offenses in his NFL stints so he can definitely help Sam transition from Bates’ offense to the next one by comparing the terminology and concepts to what he’s familiar with. It’s a rare opportunity to have a coach that’s coming off running the exact same system as the QB. I think that would offer a neat perspective.
http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap3000000938541/2018-nfl-coach-rankings:-bill-belichick-and-then-... I found this Pre-Season article from June, it has Mike McCarthy ranked #6 of NFL Head Coaches. Just one guy's opinion, but that is pretty good. Bowles was ranked #22 on the list. Both ended up fired.
Iknow your being sarcastic but didn't we tried the Bolt thing with ALL WORLD SPEED Johnny Lam jones... How that work out. PS. I would hire MM in a heartbeat and hope they do... he will being instance creditability (for Free agent signing and lockroom) and "cultural change" that is do desperately need at Florham Pk. l
Even if Belichick was being honest, he's an expert at being a coach, not evaluating coaches. He may be the greatest coach of all time, but his opinions about coaches are no more accurate than those of any knowledgable football guy.
Yea but that Baylor job was a graveyard. The whole Briles scandal fucked them big time. I don’t think it was a place that many big time players had interest in going, so you can’t really just look at the record in a vacuum.
Rhule reminds me a little of Bill O'Brien. O'Brien took over Penn State after the Paterno fallout and made them respectable again. Then the Texans hired him to be their coach.
After dinner with Jets brass last night and interview today, both parties should realize it is a Great Match, I am not waiting on Harbaugh because (don't believe it will happen and compensation would be high) Do the deal today!!!!
