I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but that brought back bad memories of Rex Ryan taking the team there before another Jets season went down the tubes.:(

I don't think there's any serious interest in Richard or Rhule as their new HC. I think it's probably either as a coordinator or just establishing contact, getting to know about an up and coming coaching prospect, and picking their brains a little. The Jets have been pretty clear that they're looking for an offensive-minded HC. Richard's background is all defense except for being passing game coordinator with the Cowboys. That's kind of bizarre as is his also serving as DB coach. The two can go hand-in-hand, and it's interesting, but I don't think Richard has enough coaching experience overall, and has almost no experience working with offense. He was only a graduate assistant at USC with Caroll, then went to the NFL with Carroll and coached the CBs and DBs for 4 seasons. He was then DC for the Seahawks for 3 seasons up until this season. Carroll knows him well. If Richard is such a good coach why did Carroll let Richard leave the Seahawks for a lesser position with the Cowboys? I don't get interviewing him at all unless it's possibly to be the Jets new DC.

Rhule at least shows potential as a leader/HC, but he doesn't have enough NFL experience or HC experience. I think he needs to finish turning Baylor around. Even if he doesn't get any more NFL coaching experience, if he coaches at Baylor for another 2-3 years and really builds a topnotch program, then I could see him getting a HC gig in the NFL.

The Packers went to the playoffs 8 straight years, including 1 Super Bowl win. McCarthy has been to 4 NFC Championship Games. (1-3) Then in 2017 Rodgers was hurt over half the season and they went (7-9), then this year Rodgers was clearly injured Week 1, but continued to play through it, and McCarthy was fired as they eventually finished (6-9-1).

Overall, McCarthy seems good. My only question is was it Rodgers or McCarthy? I guess we will find out in 2019. Though, if Darnold becomes McCarthy's new Rodgers, I doubt any Jets fan will complain. I'd rather build a team around Sam though. Mac does too.

    It's perfect.

Northern NJ has a pretty big Hasidic community.

They're be a lot less traffic and there won't be any line at Rutt's Hut.

If Baylor was his only accomplishment then maybe I'd agree but the guy won at Temple too. Not exactly football powerhouses.

I guess I’ve warmed up to the idea of MM if he can run a competent offense what’s the latest on where we are with him

From the Dallas Morning News: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/da...tephen-jones-says-cowboys-certainly-want-keep

Since the Jets couldn't interview Richard this weekend per the earlier announcement, I guess the Jets' planned trip to TX this weekend was canceled, they haven't interviewed Rhule, and they brought in McCarthy instead (either that or the media doesn't know what they're talking about and McCarthy was scheduled to come into today all along).

I'm glad they're interviewing McCarthy today. Hopefully, they'll interview Monken before making a decision. Even if McCarthy blows them away in his interview, I think I'd still like them to talk to Monken (if indeed the Jets really are interested in him and it's not just media speculation).

If they could work together and McCarthy would give Monken a lot of input on the offense, play creation and calling, I'd love to see McCarthy as the HC and Monken as our OC, but know we'd never get that lucky. McCarthy probably would never cede that much control of the offense, and Monken is too high profile. He'd (McCarthy) know that if the Jets struggled, that his replacement was already on board.

I suck at #CrystalFootball but this was a more informed version. I knew coming in the #Jets were hot for Mike McCarthy. I wondered what he thought of them. I hear now he’s feeling it. My prediction is McCarthy will be sticking in Florham Park.

If McCarthy can start to build Sam into a superstar, I'll care less about his possibly falling slightly behind the times as an offensive play caller.

Getting Sam to the top level is more important than being the next great innovative offensive mind trying to put up 40-50 points a game.

If he can't get Sam to a 65-67% comp rate and a 3:1 TD to INT ratio I'm pretty sure we'll be consistent winners.

Besides, how often in the playoffs are teams putting up 40-50 points?

A guy like Kingsbury would be a dream if he actually becomes the next McVay--but if he doesn't?

I'll take McCarthy with a slightly lesser innovative mind with a great young QB and an all-around team. The Rams seem to have fallen off a bit, no?

Yes, winning at Temple is huge, but he hasn't been that successful at Baylor. It has taken him 2 seasons to get to 7 wins, and he only got there because he went to a bowl game with only 6 wins. How many teams go to bowl games with 6-6 records? It was a bowl game in Texas, so there was definitely Texas bias/influence that got them the invitation. Going from 1-11 to 6-6 (7-6) is a big improvement, but I think Baylor needs to win 9-10 games for a season or two before we can say that he has turned that program around and built a winner there. I love his potential, and wouldn't be upset if the Jets wound up hiring him. I'm torn between McCarthy, Monken and Rhule.

Agreed. Plus Sam will be in a locker room and being groomed by a Super Bowl Champion who worked with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Can't ask for much more than that for a young QB.
Yeah, I guess I should say how much credit belongs to both? 60/40? 70/30? 50/50? Tough to know.

Actually, that would make the comment even less worth caring about. Rather than it just being meaningless lies, as I think it is, it would mean that he actually thought Bowles had coaching ability (which Bowles spent the following three seasons demonstrating he lacked), just because the team won a few games. That would suggest that Belichick was unable to see past the W-L record, which would then make the basis of his praise of McCarthy obvious, and pointless.

As I said, I think that's way overthinking it - I think he's just full of crap like always. Supporting McCarthy for coach of the Jets is a perfectly defensible position; doing so because BB had something to say about him is not.

Monken hasn't received as much interest as many as indicated. 2 teams. Jets and Bengals. Monken might be good for making adjustments and helping with the playcalls, I know McCarthy wants to call the plays. I would take him or Kliff just for Darnold's development. Mac wants to depend on the coaches to help make the draft picks, that would be a decent war room.

This thread has gone in a bunch of different directions so I have to ask, you are talking about McCarthy right?

The only reason I wouldn't hire McCarthy on the spot today is I'd like to see if the Ravens get knocked out of the playoffs and John Harbaugh becomes available. Either Harbaugh would be the only two candidates I would rank ahead of McCarthy, but only slightly. And in the end, if hesitation meant losing McCarthy, I would pull the trigger today.

Given the Jets current situation - 5 straight first time HCs; 8 years w.o. a playoff appearance; young, undisciplined roster; young FQB; - these add up to the necessity of hiring a strong, experienced, winning HC, and those three guys fit the bill on all measures.

It's all well and good for younger fans who haven't lived through DECADES of mediocrity and falling short, to say "Well I'll take my chances with a first time HC because the upside is so high". But you're ignoring the downside - yet more failure. Maybe you can stomach it, but many of us who have supported this team through all of their failures can't. Hire the sure thing, and let him build a solid, winning foundation, then bring your "whiz kid" in, That's the path to turning this franchise around.
