From a few years ago. A Packer reporter asked Belichick some question about McCarthy and Belichick replied he was one of the best coaches he has ever gone up against.

Because they are not smart enough to be high on 2 Harbaughs and a McCarthy

I get your criticism of Mike M but I am putting an experienced HC (save for Old Shanahan and unpopular A Gase) in my preference box over any newbie

I can just imagine these semi intelligent conversations between owner Chris and Macagnan ...oh boy oh boy

Because they have no idea what they're doing.

He may have done a decent job at Baylor, I don't know, but I'm in no way going to support the Jets hiring a guy to be the HC who has one year of NFL coaching experience (and that was as an assistant position coach).

Leave it to the Jets to go this route when there's a Super Bowl winning coach who has expressed interest in the position.

If Bill Belichick who I despise but recognize as one of the great coaches says something like this about another coach (who is available) maybe we should take this critical piece of insight seriously

Belichick is not saying this about Marvin Lewis or Adam Gase or Dirk Koetter. He said it about Mike McCarthy.

meh, Belichick says a lot of things. He also praised Josh McDaniels as "one of the brightest young coaching minds he had ever been around" before he left for the Denver job, and we all know how that turned out for the Broncos.

I hope that you're wrong. I hadn't heard of him before, but after doing some research on him, he sounds like he could be a pretty good candidate, maybe an excellent one. It won't hurt to interview him.

I'm not all in on McCarthy any more. I don't want to have to change HCs again in 4-5 years, and even if McCarthy can help Sam develop (which imo is suspect due to his old system and questionable play calling), he may only have the team playing at a mediocre level. Cleveland doesn't seem to be in any rush to interview McCarthy, so I have to wonder if they've lost interest in him as well. If so, we have no competition for his services. I don't want the Jets to rush to a decision. I want them to be thorough, to carefully think about what they're looking for, which candidate offers the most positives and fewest drawbacks, who can develop the culture, instill discipline, etc.

McCarthy has flaws, he's not the best coach ever, but I think he's the best option on the market right now.

The thought that McCarthy will be a mediocre coach here because he had Aaron Rodgers and "only" won 1 SB is a little ridiculous. The guy had the team humming pretty much every year. There are so many other factors involved in wins and losses, that nobody can just look at a record and say it is all on the head coach, or a coordinator, or a player. HC's don't fumble the ball or throw interceptions. McCarthy didn't build his rosters or have some weird rule against signing free agents. He coached what he was given and his teams did well pretty much every year.

All I care about right now is that our new HC isn't learning on the job how to be a HC in the NFL. When he walks through the door, he should already know how to handle all the duties of a HC, know how to LEAD a room full of men, know how to develop a QB, understands both sides of the ball, and can bring in a competent coaching staff. It seems simple but our last few HCs didn't check all those boxes. Then it is up to our GM to give him players to coach, and then our players to execute and win football games. McCarthy isn't doing anything by himself...

No reason... Just seemed a bit out of the ordinary.. I'm just glad we get to interview him before the Browns. Hopefully we make a great first impression. You only get one chance to do that.
