They can't offer McCarthy until they interview a minority candidate, hence all the request to interview candidates

Interview Kacy Rodgers. He's a minority and we'd get a terrific thread out of it.

McCarthy was extremely fortunate to keep his job with Green Bay as long as he did. One of the worst in game coaches I’ve ever seen

How many playoff wins does Lewis have again? Dude presided over some of the most epic collapses I've ever seen.

    Can't.
The changes to the Rooney rule prevent it, but I would love to watch the inferno as the board burns in horror!

Monken has a bright offensive mind. The Jets could do much worse. I would not be upset if he's the choice. I do worry about how he's going to build a staff with such few connections so in an ideal world he would be offensive coordinator here under a seasoned HC. But his aggressive mentality would be a welcome addition in any role here

Must be because his players became fat during the latter part of the season.

Gase babied the fuck out of Tannehill. That's probably what ruined him more than anything. It resulted in Tannehill literally crying in practice because a practice squad player intercepted him and grown men FOOTBALL players like Jarvis Landry asking out because of how ridiculous it became.

We definetely dont need that here!!!

Imagine you are an iron man veteran linebacker or something and the head coach is babying the QB so much that people aren't allowed to intercept him in practice. SMH no wonder they quit on him

I didn’t even know Kingsbury was being considered but I like him too

McCarthy I’d be OK with but I’m really hoping for a sharp and hungry offensive mind in the mold of Monken or Kingsbury. McCarthy is actually pretty conservative and hasn’t changed his offense much over the years. He still would be a good teacher for Sam though which is pretty important

There’s going to be flaws with every candidate honestly.

Scooter Bienemy is not (yet) qualified to be a head coach. I hate to say it but I think he's only getting interviews because of the Rooney Rule. Never called plays. Just a running backs coach, really

I get what you’re saying but certain guys just have it and some just don’t

Todd Bowles was extremely qualified and was talked about as a HC in waiting for a few seasons but he just didn’t have the aptitude to make the correct in-game decisions when it came down to it.

If someone really blows you away I wouldn’t discount them just because they didn’t call plays at the NFL level (he did at Colorado for a few years). He might not even be calling plays as an HC anyway. For the guys with less on their resumes you really need to be close to 100% sure but I don’t mind giving guys that chance to impress

That was actually Philbin, not Gase.
    Gase sucks for other reasons.

Tony - If McCarthy lands HC, who would you think he looks to for OC and DC?

If the candidate is half black like Barack Hussein O does that satisfy the looney rule?

    Serious question

You can designate this Year 2 of the rebuild, but he's had four seasons and four draft classes worth of input.I'll give him credit for making the right call in moving up to draft Darnold. The problem is that he was brought here as a personnel expert; and his misfires in the draft have set this franchise back at least five years. Not many GMs are given four seasons to learn on the job. He's in a results driven business; his team's record is 24-40, and it's only due to our ownership's irrational tolerance of failure and mediocrity that he's still running the team. He's also never participated in hiring a head coach, nor has Christopher Johnson, and that's another concern.

He’s literally Matt Nagy and Doug Pederson but you’ll say it’s because he’s black.

    Wow

I think like Reid when he left the Eagles, McCarthy will look to open up the offense. Monken would likely be one of his main targets as OC. Don't think he will get a HC job this year.
Jeff Jagodzinski is a strong possibility, probably more likely.
DC Winston Moss, or Greg Williams.
Moss was his assistant HC so if he can't land Williams, it seems like a likely choice. I mentioned Williams because it doesn't appear that the Browns are really looking to keep him, the said his retention wasn't a requirement for the next HC and McCarthy has strong ties to the entire Browns FO.
