Wasn’t him going to the Browns basically a done deal?

I've never been a fan of him. There's a good reason the state was in a state of rejoice when he was fired. He hasn't changed up the playbook to change with the times. His play calling is the same type of hair pulling frustration we've been going thru with the Jets for many years.

I would not be happy with McCarthy whatsoever. If he ends up being the guy, I hope I'm wrong. Rodgers was in year 2 in the league when McCarthy was hired. So maybe he helped him get to what he was. He's never been a starter with a different coach, so it's hard to say how much impact coach had on his success.

He has a good overall coaching record, and he was held back by a stubborn gm refusing to make off-season moves, so I will give him credit there for working with teams that had weaknesses year, in and year out. However imo there was enough overall talent, and Rodgers was good enough for The Packers to reach more than just one SB.

Bottom line: The Jets could certainly do worse, and it probably wouldn't be a terrible hire, but it's not a move I hope the team makes. Thanks for the @.

Good post! That is pretty much how I feel too. Hopefully the Jets make the right decision and if that decision is McCarthy, I hope he does better than I expect.

    What about him?

Maybe read a couple of news feeds to get caught up before posting?

I will say this. I would feel comfortable in that I know it wouldn't be a 4-12 team anymore. He has enough success, and experience that I have confidence we would get better. If we get a college coach, or inexperienced coordinator, I think the ceiling would be higher, but I think the chances of a disaster would increase as well.

I just don’t see him replicating even half the success he had in Green Bay here should he actually be our next coach. The packers are one of the most stable organizations in sports and the jets are one of the least. I don’t think he’s a great in game coach which really showed the last four five seasons. They never had a good defense or any commitment to a running game seemed to me like A rod ran the team

Gee whiz, Buddy Thanks. What would we do without you? I'm sure that won't show up on Google. And starting a new thread for your little bit of wisdom rather than putting it in the Mike McCarthy thread? Absolute genius!

If you really liked us you would check the main board before starting a duplicate thread.

Seems like it’s 50/50. McCarthy only taking two interviews.

    Cleveland.

Think this also speaks volumes about the QBs the teams have.

It's probably the number one factor in a coaches decision. Who wants to get hired on to a team without a high draft pick, and Keenum, or Tannehill as your qb? You're set up to fail, and get fired eventually.

Well look at how poorly he performed in his first year. Maybe that scared him off. Also the coach was fired after one year. That might have been a red flag for him as well.
