WFANs Jody Mac had an excellent interview this evening with Andrew Brandt who was the former VP of the Packers during the hiring of McCarthy and the development of Aaron Rodgers. He discussed the reasoning behind why McCarthy was chosen as HC and how McCarthy (a former QB coach and offensive coordinator) worked one-on-one with Aaron Rodgers during training camp for 3 seasons (because Favre just didn't do training camp). Some of what he said is covered in this article he wrote... https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/12/11/mike-mccarthy-green-bay-packers-hired-fired-andrew-brandt I thought it was a good read and the discussion really reaffirmed my belief that this is the HC we want for Sam Darnold. What scares me is how in the article, Brandt talks about how working for the publicly owned GB packers means no worries about owners making football decisions and otherwise sabotaging the front office's ability to decide what is best for the team. Going from GB to the NYJ is a giant leap... after reading that, I just don't see why anyone would want to coach here... Darnold or no Darnold.
McCarthy has issues with game management but no doubt he can develop a QB. Bring Pettine back too so we don't change the defense
Monken is intriguing... i'm not a McCarthy fan . The biggest fear I have is Caldwell ... I want NOTHING to do with him.
You can be sure McCarthy watched the Jets vs. Packers game & was impressed with the Jets.... especially Darnold. Even though the jets lost the game there was a lot to like about it.
Maybe.... I mean we certainly hope so, but maybe not. Not only do some guys want their own QB but it is possible that some bright offensive minds aren't as high on Darnold as we all think
Yes. McCarthy was integral to Rodgers' success. Rodgers is an ungrateful asshole though who thinks he did it on his own and the media usually latches onto his nuts. The real story though is different thanks for posting by the way
We need to hear what @NYJalltheway has to say about McCarthy. He has watched closely at most of his coaching career in Green Bay. Think he would be a good option for the Jets?
