Looks like this is happening and it deserves its own thread. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001006803/article/mike-mccarthy-expected-to-interview-with-jets Mike McCarthy expected to interview with Jets Mike McCarthy's search for a new NFL home appears to be starting in New York. The former Green Bay Packers head coach is expected to interview with the New York Jets for their head-coaching vacancy, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The development comes a day after the Jets fired fourth-year coach Todd Bowles following a 4-12 season. McCarthy figures to be one of the hottest names in the coaching market this offseason following his 13-year run in Green Bay that included a Super Bowl title, six division titles and nine playoff appearances. Whether the Jets' leadership believes McCarthy can get the franchise off the ground remains to be seen. Jets CEO Christopher Johnson and general manager Mike Maccagnan both stressed their desire to hire a coach who can get the most out of quarterback Sam Darnold. McCarthy's experience with helping Aaron Rodgers develop into one of the most prolific quarterbacks of his generation could make him a strong candidate for the Jets' coaching vacancy. While the Jets might end up being McCarthy's first coaching interview this offseason, other teams outside of Green Bay and New York likely will be reaching out to him soon, too. But, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero points out, it looks like the Arizona Cardinals are out of the McCarthy hunt, at least for now:
If Hardbaugh is just a pipe dream I feel like this is our best option. He can help Darnold...The Packers got shut out last week so whos fault was it really?
The fact the McCarthy reportedly turned down an interview with AZ is an encouraging sign. Unless Harbaugh shakes free, to me this is really the only hire for the Jets to make
Agreed. McCarthy isn't used to a team actually spending money on FAs so that would be a first for him.
Meh, I'm not thrilled but he'll be better than what we've had. One of the knocks against him in Green Bay was the inability to adapt and update the offense to the ever-changing game. It had gone stale. Happens all the time, coaches don't evolve their thinking to keep up with the games evolution. Is he really the guy to lead us into a "new era"?
Of course they are expected to interview him, what's earth shattering about this, it will be earth shattering of he actually grants them a interview.
This is what a lot of our fans don’t understand, the Packers had very little explosive talent around Rodgers. Below average running game and an ok defense. They don’t sign a lot of FA and stick to home grown drafted players. My fear with Mcarthy is the fact that he is pass happy HC, even the patriots who have Tom Brady focus on running the ball, they are fifth in rushing this year. Jets need a HC who has a good feel for the game and makes decisions accordingly.
We don't need another guy to come in and learn how to do this job. I would prefer Chris Johnson hire someone who already knows what the job requires and how to do it successfully. McCarthy's resume is already head and shoulders above any Jet HC since the Trust Fund Boy purchased this franchise. The guy has done all the things we need a HC to do. He's checked all the boxes. We got plenty of cash... What the fuck is the problem???
The things I like about McCarthy in no particular order. 1) Superbowl winning coach. Managed high pressure games multiple times. Things will not overwhelm him. He has been there and done that many times. 2) Yes he had Favre and Rodgers but don't forget. Packers are one of the big guns of the NFL and they trusted McCarthy enough to manage Packers many many years. If he wasn't decent he would be gone well in advance. But Packers kept him year after year. We aren't talking about Browns here, we are talking about Packers. 3) He calls the plays himself. Once he establishes his connection with Darnold then we won't have to fear on losing the Offensive Coordinator after a good year. He is here to stay and call plays for Darnold. 4) Bowles brought some respect to Jets HC position after Rex circus. McCarthy will bring stability and credibility. He is a no BS coach and he will run a tight ship. If either Harbaugh isn't happening this is the best choice we have.
