I guess the idea is, if it was ruled a catch, it would've taken a certain amount of time to run up to the line for another play, so the replay benefits then 'unfairly' by stopping the clock. CLUTCH Ravens D wins the division! ...and there's that fucking endzone celebration again.
not a fan of the steelers so glad to see the Ravens go through though I guess that makes it even less likely Harbaugh becomes available
The Browns? Even if their no-name kicker somehow made it from 57 the Ravens still had a minute and two timeouts anyway. It's probably the higher percentage play to let Baker have one more crack at it even on 4th and 10.
So.... Colts/Titans @ Texans (EARLY) Eagles @ Bears (LATE) Chargers @ Ravens (EARLY) Cowboys @ Seahawks (LATE) Maybe they flip-flop the NFC games.
Hoping for the Colts to win tonight and beat Houston next week, send the Chargers or Ravens to New England rather the Texans.
The Texans should be the early Sat game. I’m thinking Dallas is the Sat night game ...It’s in Dallas .
What about the offenses? Remember, Alex Smith led the league in passer rating last year with the Chiefs.
Yes, he had a season not much worse than Brees' season this year, and no one was hinting that he should be in the MVP conversation. Meanwhile, Mahomes had 26% more yards and almost twice the TDs that Smith had, with a passer rating 9 points higher, so to act like all Mahomes did was pick up where Smith left off is not accurate.
I never said Mahomes's 2018 wasn't better than Smith's 2017. But Brees's 2018 was also better than Smith's 2017. Brees didn't have as many yards and TDs as Mahomes but he took better care of the football. And although passer rating is a flawed stat, Brees's rating is slightly higher than Mahomes's. My original point was that the Chiefs offense can still be good without Mahomes. I'm not as confident that's true for the Saints without Brees.
It wasn't forced, Cleveland was given the option of a runoff or using their remaining timeout, they chose the runoff
Brees was other-worldly in terms of accuracy this year, but otherwise Mahomes had a better season. He had way more yards passing, way more TDs, a higher TD percentage, a higher yards per attempt. The fact that his numbers were considerably better than a career year from Smith to me undercuts the argument that it was because of the rest of the offensive players. Brees had Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas on his team, and they're not chopped liver either.
That is being forced (you're forced to either burn a timeout and lose the ten seconds), but I've already agreed that there is an argument for taking the ten seconds off.
The fact that Mahomes's numbers were considerably better than a career year from Smith means Mahomes is better than Smith, which goes without saying. Not that Mahomes's 2018 was better than Brees's 2018. Anyway, I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate with you. In my opinion the MVP race is super close, and I'm still not sure who I'd vote for. Even though the award is for regular season performance only, since I'm not a voter, my final judgment will depend on how well they play in the postseason.
