This is another reason why Bowles and Macc need to go. Hire Eliot Wolf as GM and let him hire the HC.
I'm not for giving Macc another year. Good guy but we really haven't moved the needle a bit in his 4 years here. Thanks for managing the cap relatively well and getting Darnold.
Hey, I've been saying this from the beginning, but these are the Johnsons and suckitude is how they roll.
Not to split hairs but mac is signed thru 2020. But the premise is still correct. The choices are really extend him thru 2021 or fire him.
The yardbarker article linked to above comes from something Ralph Vacchiano wrote. Vacchiono says that the Jets have two strikes against them in getting a top-flight coach: (1) Maccagnan; and (2) the lack of any impact players on offense (other than Darnold). https://www.sny.tv/jets/news/why-th...thys-preferred-coaching-destination/301414234 The situation is even worse than you guys have said if the Jets keep Maccagnan. Not only will Maccagnan's presence deter top-rate coaching candidates from even considering the job, but if Maccagnan gets shown the door next year, the fact that there is a coach already in place will discourage first-rate candidates from seeking the GM job. That is exactly what happened when the Jets got stuck hiring Idzik almost by default. The Johnson Bros. seem to be setting things up so the merry-go-round of ineptitude continues.
We need a great GM more than we need a great HC. If the guy who drafted Christian Hackenberg in the second round stays on for even one more year we're screwed. Dump Mac.
Totally disagree. Our HC is clearly and absolutely Incompetent and way out of his league. He has single handed cost us at least three losses. No GM could make this team a winner with him as HC.
We all know that we're going to get a subpar coaching candidate in here to run this ship further into the ground, so the idea that Mac would be a hindrance towards getting someone good in here isn't a surprise at all. This is the Jets we're talking about here. It's not a matter of IF they screw it up. It's a matter of by how much and how spectacularly they do it.
We know how this is gonna play out.. ChrisJ will deduce that the only way Macc can entice a HC to take the job is some form of security. That will come with yet another extension to give Macc time to finish his "rebuild". This is assuming they let Macc choose his own HC and that's not a certainty. Evidently they like this dual track Org chart even though for the Jets, its not working. Have any of you seen any evidence that our acting PFO / CEO would be willing to step outside the box and let Macc hire his own HC?
A coach who wants to take full control might actually like having a lame duck GM. It gives them a year to figure out what they want to do with the scouting department.
If Mac isn't getting canned this year, he's not getting canned for three years after we get a new coach (Unless if our team is just absolutely abysmal)
Trust me, if next year is a repeat of this year (and I wouldn't at all be surprised if it is, Bowles is one of our problems but canning him isn't singlehandedly going to turn us around), the fans will make enough noise that Mac is fired. And the cycle of stupidity will continue.
The best approach in this case is to jettison both. Preferably by selecting a GM with enough clout to bring in a top HC or a promising Offensive minded star. No more of this two inexpirenced rookies one with a dynasour mentality reporting to an incompetent ownership team.
If the fans can make enough noise to get a GM and in turn, a first year HC fired, then this team will NEVER be successful... Might as well quit at that point
