The talent does suck, but that same talent did win a few games this season and looked good doing it. No question they need a major upgrade in a majority of positions, especially on offense, but the coaching doomed them. And I agree, fire Macc and Bowles...both aren't good enough to make this team succeed.
Of course I live in AZ I get to see every one of their games. There's nothing better than getting the Jets national feed at home and having a double header of the Jets and Cardinals. FYI they are saying the same thing about the coaching staff and GM that Jet fans are. Still they have more skill position talent on both sides of the ball. The similarities of both teams is the OL. They're both a hot mess. They at least have a couple of decent WR and a very good running back who's being wasted. They also have a very good pass rush. PP has mailed it in but he's still better than Johnson by miles. I can't believe they gave him 34 million guaranteed.
2 of the 3 wins came against a rookie Head Coach installing a new system in year 1. Every rookie HC lost their first NFL game this year. We got lucky against the Lions they weren't ready to play and the Colts would blow us up if we played them again. The Denver win was a good win.
Since losing to us, the Broncos have beaten the Chargers and Steelers and lost relatively close games to the Rams, Chiefs and Texans. The shock and embarrassment of losing to us has clearly woken them up.
That still doesn't change the fact that the talent was good enough to win those games.I'm not saying it's even above average talent, but our coaching makes it worse.
SF beat Detroit in week 2 of the season. The Cardinals beat them twice. The Jets along with the other bottom feeding teams have rosters that aren't that good and besides being not that good they have no depth. Injuries that hurt other teams doesn't necessarily make them completely uncompetitive. The Jets have a bad roster and lack depth. They have had injuries that have created big holes that can be exploited. They have a rookie QB who has been a turnover machine. The backup QB is a B quality journeyman. This team with a great Head coach is a 6 and 10 team. If everything goes right, no injuries you might get to 8 and 8.
The Jets haven't had a great draft(one that yields 3+ above average players) since 2006. As Br4d has pointed out in other threads, not nailing the draft means we don't see a sustainable contender. Relying on FA's to be the stars means we see 1-2 years of good play at most before they start to decline.
Quite simply I'd fire a coach who has taken 2 years plus an abysmal record to finally get pissed and call out his own players. Like I said earlier - too little too late. As Colorado also said, he should take a look in a mirror first before finally deciding to vent his splean. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Rodgers in decline is still 100x better than Darnold. Green Bay has more talent overall, is more disciplined and can be turned around more quickly. Most importantly, they'll have a professional organization to deal with and not a couple of Trust Fund Boobs/Dilettantes who want to meddle. Then there's the media in NY, the bright glare of the spotlight, a fanbase that is quick to criticize, and it's a very expensive place to live. I'll have to disagree with you. I think the GB job is infinitely more desirable than the Jets. I don't think that most people would find living in GB as bad as you, particularly families.
I think he knows that, but is just being a good soldier, and perhaps protecting his image, and doesn't want to be seen as a malcontent.
Yes. That message is that the NFL is a results oriented business, not a social endeavor. I wish the Johnson family could understand that.
I really hate the title of this thread, my eyes scan it and see “fired Todd Bowles” and I get all excited... and the let down when I focus and read it.
I think there are an overwhelming # of football reasons to choose the packers over the jets, but make no mistake speaking solely on geographical locatiom GB is the one location in the NFL that no one wants to go.Cold, nothing to do & Expensive. Football people are no different than anyone else. Geography/climate/accessibility always play a part in taking on a new position.Especially when families get involved. Whose spouse would choose the frozen tundra & brautwurst over park Ave & A great NY pie? Its no comparison Edit:Excluding Antoine Winfield’s wife
You choose a city where you can win and keep your job. As opposed to a city with two boobs for owners, an incompetent GM, and a 2nd year QB coming off an uneven rookie season.
Any candidate that has those true feelings or doesnt think they can overcome it,isnt the right person for the job anyway. Jets need a forward thinking innovator who isnt concerned about perception yet isnt too stubborn to comprehend where this team has repeatedly failed.
I want the guy who will jump on the opportunity and sink his teeth into it. A guy who believes he can start with a winning season and get to the playoffs four years in his first five. I want someone who sees Darnold as an uncut diamond that needs only to be handled well to shine. A coach who wants to be here until he's ready to retire, regardless of who owns the team or who the GM happens to be. I want the guy who welcomes the spotlight, not shies away from it. I want a winner.
I have to disagree with you. I think that you have a NYC or Northeast bias going on and are blinded by that. Have you ever lived anywhere else? I grew up in NC and have spent most of my life here, but lived in Texas for 4 1/2 years, Georgia for 2 years, and NYC for 16 years. Since I moved back to the South from NYC, a lot of people have spoken with me when they found out I lived in NYC for 16 years. They have made many comments like, "How in the world could you stand it there?" or "It's a fun place to go visit for a few days, but I would NEVER want to live there." or they made comments about how noisy and dirty it was and how rude the people are. I'm pretty certain that people from the Midwest and South and probably most of the West would overwhelmingly prefer Green Bay over NYC. I know a lot of people who have never been to NYC and have no desires to go. I know a lot of people who like to go there occasionally to go see a Broadway show and eat at a fancy restaurant but would't live in NYC if you paid them. Many, if not most, people who grow up in rural areas or in smaller towns and cities wouldn't live in a big city if you paid them, particularly a northern city. Those who live in the SE when they want to go to a big city will usually choose Atlanta or New Orleans or a Florida city. In Texas it would be Dallas or Houston. There is still a lot of ignorance in the south and a lot of anti-"Yankee" (and we aren't talking the baseball team) sentiment. Most people in the rest of the country want grass and trees and hills, not concrete canyons. They want a house, not an apartment. They want to drive, not ride mass transit. They are fierce protectors of their personal space and would never tolerate the NYC buses or subways for more than a day or two if at all. Most of the people I've spoken with who have visited or do visit the city have taken cabs and never rode the bus or subway. They said they had no desires to. Northern NJ is dirty, polluted, congested, and most people from the rest of the country would have no desire to live there either. I loved NYC during most of my 16 years there, but there's no way I would have ever raised a child or children there.
That's easy to say, but if you stick to that way of thinking you'll never find a qualified HC or GM imo. It isn't that cut and dried. What is cut and dried is the Johnsons are meddling boobs, and no football man with one ounce of pride and sense is going to want to work with or for the Johnsons without complete control, and that's something I don't see the Johnsons ever giving. They did that once with Parcells and he quit on them and screwed them with who he recommended to run the team. They surely have enough intelligence to know that they don't know anything about football, and that the team would be better served hiring a knowledgeable, experienced NFL man to run the team. They haven't done that, which, imo, clearly demonstrates that they don't really care about winning. It's a money-making toy for them.
Sounds nice in theory but there's a difference between being intimidated by a challenge and staying away from bosses who are going to screw you over. In the end you're much less likely to end up with Superman than with someone who took the job because nobody else would take him.
