What say you TGG?? I don't really see any reason to play Sam again in 2018 either. Especially with the present roster and circumstances. Might as well get our $10mil out of McCown and even see if Webb can be a viable backup.

Sadly, I have to agree. The OL is awful and the CS makes Schottenheimer's offense look innovative. I still find it amazing that Denver's pass rush was neutralized by this OL.

Give him a phantom “setback” in practice and put him on IR

Can’t live life scared. Every snap is a learning experience . If he can play he plays.

This team is such a mess thanks to the bad job of GM ing by Mac With no OL thats serviceable and no viable receivers/no run game whats the point of even having a game? Plus the owners have left Screw Up at the controls..haha its comical

This is scrub time at the sandlot..and McGown is the just the man for that job

    If healthy he should play.
The decision was made to go with him this year, benching him shows a lack of confidence in him.
He probably should have sat but that's irrelevant at this point

GTFO of here with this crap.

Not you CMan, but the rationale.

These next 6 games are 2019 preseason games.

Get as many reps as possible against the best competition he can face.

Throw INTs and fumble and fuck up pre-snap reads and coverages and be inaccurate and lose.

And take the tape and the experience with him until next OTAs and training camp and preseason and come out week 1 a better, more experienced, more grizzled QB.

    And be ready to win.

    Not just learn.

This is the time for hands on training, not next year.

    Next year is for winning.

No more babying quarterbacks. He shoulda played this past Sunday instead of having a team faked injury.

He's a football player this is what he does for a living.

We saw how McCown played against the Bills. Darnold is by far the best QB on this roster if healthy he starts. The Jets would've beat Buffalo if he had started. JMO

Enough with this coddling overprotective stuff.

Lol, no. Did we watch the same game? That was a clear loss with or without Darnold.

I said it before the year, and I'll say it again:

All reps are not equal for NFL QB's. If you're playing on a completely subpar offense with a shoddy line, the so-called "valuable experience" you get is severely compromised by the risk of injury and other detrimental effects.

Hypothetically, just assume Sam had the worst offense in NFL history, with useless receivers and a line composed of guys off the street. Would that "experience" be valuable for a 21 year-old's development? Of course not. It would be worthless AT BEST.

So where exactly do you draw the line? At what point is your offense so hopeless -- and your whole offensive system and coaching staff in such lame-duck status -- that there is really nothing to gain from playing?

This is poor logic. The fans saying to sit Sam should have said to sit him from Day 1 if you feel like this. The O-line and offensive weapons haven't changed. They are still the same. Sam hit a little bit of a wall, but it no way should they shut him down for 2018. He isn't Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger or Drew Brees. I would get "protecting" them. He is 21. The season is LOST. He needs to play and learn. That is truly all that is left for the Jets if you think about it. Helping Sam learn and grow.

Having said that, no need to rush him back from his foot injury. If he isn't 100% by the Patriots game: let McCown play, but as soon as he is good to go, he should play.

If Darnold played, we would have lost 41-21, he'd have thrown for 250 yards, a TD, and 2 picks, and there would have been more people saying he's a bust.

I don't believe there is a reason to hold him out unless there is some kind of genuine report that there is a significant injury. That said, his playing should be contingent upon him being able to direct an offensive game plan generally designed to maintain and improve his comfort level as an NFL quarterback but he should also be required to run 10 - 20% of the plays that challenge him to stretch his capabilities, abilities and awareness. It is quite obvious by now that the game plans he has been trying to direct do not fit those goals and it also appears that the architect of those plans has had experience dating at least to his Seahawk days with having a hard time doing anything other than what he, himself wanted to do. Therefore, I believe it is imperative for someone else to begin to call the offense for the next six games in order to maximize the learning and growth of Darnold as the primary objective of the rest of this year.

It’s his job now, he’s getting paid for better or for worse. He needs to continue to gain experience and the only way to do so is by playing plain and simple.

He's had some damn good games with these OL and receivers.

This just sounds like an excuse because he's struggled of late. Play him if he is healthy enough to play.

    Hypothetically?

    Assume?

    That's easy.

I say we announce that McCown is starting...then throw Webb at the Pats last minute.

That'll fool 'em. It fooled us.

    Twice.

The only case that can be made for Sam not playing anymore this season is he's a wimp and can't handle the leadership responsibility that being an NFL starting QB requires.
