    FYI.
We have 6 picks in the upcoming draft.
    I keep seeing 7 picks.
We have a first no , second round pick,
2 thirds , 1 fourth, 1 fifth , no 6th(sent to the saints with Bridgewater) and a seventh.

You are correct - the playcalling of Bates is horrendous. He has also shown nothing as a QB coach or coordinator as far as improving the play of anyone, and yes, he didn't just show up in June, he's been around for two years. Precisely what have you seen that indicates that Bates has been an asset in any way to the Jets?

Bowles also has shown us nothing positive; where would anyone get the idea that two weeks from now, two months from now or two years from now that will suddenly take a 180 degree turn and he wull become the coach we were looking for when he was hired. There's nothing there! So, you want to keep extending these guys so that Darnold needn't get a new playbook? How about change is made now to get Darnold and the entire team some coaches who can help them improve and put together a viable game plan? All you're doing is delaying the inevitable - the current staff is not NFL caliber.

Or would you rather run with the status quo because in their incompetence it appears Darnold actually may be a better player than they allow him to be? How many games will that win?

    You can't be serious.

You want this shit show to go on for another season & a half?

Just so Sammy can have continuity and won't have to learn new plays?

As a qb...more than half the battle is recognizing the defense your facing. That's not gonna change.

Did you watch that game yesterday?

You really want to put Sam back in that situation?

I'd rather he sit and rot.

your right. i forgot we gave a 6th up in the bridgewater trade. still 6 picks and 3 in the 1st 3 rounds is good enough plus 100 mil to spend
i haven't seen anything from bates i like but he's only been OC for 10 games he was out of football for 4 years and in 2017 he was our QB coach and mccown had a career year at the age of 38.

as far as bowles goes, i wouldn't say nothing. our defense has been top 10 under him every year and when he called the plays on defense in rodgers absence our D played very well. We just need an offensive mind at HC these days which isn't bowles and i doubt he'd be demoted to DC but he would make a good one. he was also a great DC in arizona as well.

i'm also not saying to keep extending them, just 1 more season. bates hasn't had enough of a chance to be judged at OC and many good coaches have sucked to start their career.

Is that the same McCown that only completed half his passes yesterday against the Buffalo Bills? The same one who could only put up ten points against the Buffalo Bills? the same guy intercepted twice by the Buffalo Bills? Isn't his QB coach that same Jeremy Bates? I must be missing something - exactly what should Bates be getting credit for? McCown had a fluke season last year - there's no reason to assume Bates had any part in that. Bates has himself said he's the problem with the offense; he's not getting better, he's getting worse. What does one more season produce? A delay in the development of Sam Darnold!

Bowles, Bates and Rodgers are in way over their heads; there is not the slightest indication that they are capable of improvement as there is no indication that any part of the Jets game has improved during their tenure. Why delay the inevitable? Get rid of these guys now.

I cannot for the life of me understand how someone could seriously suggest we give Bowles one more year based on anything football related.

One more year only pushes Sam’s development one more year into the future.

    Or worse, into the abyss.

yeah the offense was shit but a lot of it is the playcalling and not having any healthy good WRs. anderson was out. eneunwa was limping after every play and kearse who was great last year has regressed into a shit tier WR and the pryor signing was a bust. we need to overhaul the WR group in the offseason. keep Q and anderson, and sign some help.

Thanks for helping prove my point. The two people responsible for that playcalling are two guys you want to keep around for another year and a half. Do you think that will change?

do i think bates can be better at calling plays with a year under his belt? yes you saying people can't even improve? the last time he called plays was 2010. in that season the seahawks had matt hasslebeck at QB and somehow won their division with a 7-9 record then in the 1st playoff game won 41-36 before losting 24-35 the next round and bates was fired. we've also had a few offensive explosion games this year. he can take what he learns this year and improve next year. judging his whole future based off 10 games is no different then judging any rookie player based off 10 games. what happens if he turns it around next year after we fire him and goes to some other team and leads their offense to be top 10, you going to turn around and call the jets dumb foro firing him? of course you will because that's what fans do. 0 patience, 0 foresight, blame everyone and anyone.

You can't--Todd Bowles is still watching it--especially the part where he declines a 10 yard penalty and then watches the bears gain exactly 10 yards the next play for a first down.

There should be no concerns about Darnold having to learn a new playbook.

Look at what happened with Jared Goff. Granted - he has a lot more talent to work with than we do...

But he went from looking like a certified bust to looking certified Pro-Bowl caliber.

What was the most significant change? He was paired up with a legitimate modern offensive mind.

    Let's do the same.

This learning a new offense thing is BS coachspeak. Goff and Trubisky have had no problem doing it, the important thing is you have a good offense and not whatever Bates thinks he's doing.

No. Fifty years of patience. I could not care in the slightest what Bates did eight years ago, since then or what he does eight years from now as long as he is doing it elsewhere; the sooner the better. He has shown nothing here in two years that indicates he is an NFL caliber coach; perhaps that is why Pete Carroll got rid of him after only one season despite bringing him along to Seattle from USC. Why are you so resistant to change when Bowles and company have been given plenty of time to show improvement but have gotten worse instead of better?

Where is Bates going to get another job as an OC if the Jets fire him this year? Surely not in the NFL. He doesn't have the successful history to land another job as an OC without building up his resume again.

Just because you disagree with somebody's opinion doesn't mean they have 0 patience and 0 foresight. Many Jet fan have been plenty patient over the years. My God, with the Jets history, if they weren't patient they wouldn't still be here. No offense, but that sense of "superiority" is not becoming.

Your own statement confirms that Bates hasn't called plays in ~8 years (including 4 years out if football). Don't you think it can be argued logically that perhaps it wasn't the best idea to sack last year's OC (who was fairly successful with McCown) and replace him with someone who wasn't sure he wanted to take the job and then deciding to not backfill the QB coach position - especially with a rookie QB?

When you have a QB on a rookie contract you have to take advantage of his "cheap" years. To me it seems less then optimal to waste those years with questionable offensive coaching because you think the OC and the HC will improve. To hope the Bates and Bowles get smarter in the off-season for continuity's sake seems illogical to me.

Me, I'd rather get someone with recent history of successful offensive accumen even if Sam has to learn a new playbook.

far from BS. why do you think QBs take time to adjust to the NFL. it's more then the talent they play it's also the brand new playbook and many college systems are very dumbed down
what happened 50 years ago isn't relevant today. i'm not resistant to change, i'm just looking at it from all sides. how often has the jets changed staffs in the past 20 years, how often has it worked out?
there is no superiority. only you are saying that. i'm sorry but giving an opinion on someone's behavior isn't trying to be superior. nowhere would i ever think or say i'm superior to anyone. were all just fans, i'm just trying to be rational while others are being emotional becuase well the jets suck and people are angry. i get it. I'm angry as well on gameday and IF i posted on gameday (which i don't if you haven't noticed) i'd probbaly say the same shit, but instead i take a step back, review the game a day later and make a less emotional and more rational post. so lets drop that nonsense ok?

as far as replacing mccown, we seen on sunday it didn't matter. we also know the best experience is playing. no reason to sit darnold unless he was clueless. none of the rookie QBs in the 1st round are sitting anymore. all 4 of the top 4 are starting and the 5th one is being used in a gimmick role because the already have a decent QB. is bowles going to improve? probably not. he's proven he can call a good defense but that's about it and he's losing the lockerroom. but remeber the staff is tied together. you can't really fire bowles without firing bates and rodgers at this point. and bates could improve. he can study what he did wrong and right in the offseason. he's basically a rookie playcaller and anyone we hire to replace him would likely be a rookie playcaller as well. so essentially all we would be doing is replacing OCs eveyr year liek we've done with 0 sucess in the past

McVay gave Goff pre-snap reads, he was instrumental in getting Goff back on the right track. So you need to be careful what kind of offensive coach you hire. Will the coach make things easier for the QB or tougher?
