Well I think we might have jumped the shark today. Not only did we lose ugly, I think the team is finally splintered. I am very hard on Bowles, but I also feel bad. He does seem like a hellova cool guy. But yes the time has come. But how early do we cut bait? We have a very weak CS, so who would be the interim HC? No one jumps to mind. Plus I don’t want the mayhem and embarrassment for 8 weeks. However we do need to let the potential candidates “know” that we are open for business and make sure we don’t lose out. So do we wait till week 15 or 16? Do we let it all play out at the risk of losing someone to another NFL team? Sad times, but it is what it is.
Rick Dennison is the best choice for interim HC. Whether to keep or fire Bowles now depends on whether you think Dennison should be promoted over Bates.
Pros.... we fire the coaching staff Cons ... not enough to worry about More pros ... players learn that their are consequences to bad proformance Cons ... sam has to learn a new system Pros ... Sam gets to learn a different system Cons ... I could go on forever about this Pros ... I’m a wee bit to drunk to keep typing
Bates should be headed into unemployment along with Bowles. Johnson needs to pull a Cleveland and send both of them packing.
There are no cons IMO. Zero, nada. I rather accept a little chaos now, see who rises above this shit show and plays competitive football. The rest go bye bye next year. We sink deeper so be it. Make the freaking higher picks count for a change. This team is ill prepared, undisciplined and in the process of digressing week after week. The performance of the entire offense was disgraceful, there is no saving grace. Pre snap penalties are a joke. This team is not made accountable, starting with the coaching. Just sending the message is a huge plus. The fact that we struggle with selecting the acting HC s a testament to TB massive inabîlity to select staff nor lead a Team. JH is rumored to be on the chopping blocking down in Baltimore. A change of scenery would do him good. Just saying.
Pro: Bowles is no longer "leading" this franchise Con: Presumably Jeremy Bates would still be here "calling" the offense
The only position that has positively progressed into a good unit are the linebackers. Make Kevin Greene the damn interim HC. Bet the team has a fire under its assthe rest of the season if nothing else.
Bowles has lost the locker room. You could see this a few weeks ago when guys were just calling it in. They're just showing up for a paycheck now and it shows.
Pro's: Fans and players will be happy Bowles and his 1990's way of coaching is finally gone. Con's: How will Kacy Rodgers get another job in the NFL without his buddy helping him? It's over though. Today was the OFFICIAL end of the Todd Bowles era. The players are finally saying what the fans have. They tried to buy in, but clearly it does not work. Bowles is (1-3) against Miami the last 2 seasons. ALL 4 OF THOSE GAMES should have been won by the Jets. All 3 losses were cringe-worthy. Today somehow was the worst.
PRO: With Bowles and Bates gone, the interim HC could open the playbook for Sam,no more playing ultra conservative to attempt to save your job. Let Sam sink or swim. Con: The interim Coach may pull a Spagnuolo and continue to coach conservative with the hopes of showing "I can do this"
There's no difference as far as the candidates go if we fire Bowles today or at the end of the season. You can't interview them until after the season ends. Unless your looking at hiring some coach who is currently unemployed. There's no one remotely Qualified to be intrim HC and why throw more shit at Darnold.
I want Bowles off this team as soon as humanly possible, but at the same time I understand your point. This whole coaching staff is terrible and no one is really qualified enough for this to avoid being a shitshow and making it worse for Darnold. At least Bowles and Bates are supporting Darnold and have been there from the start. Such a mess of a situation.
Sadly I don't see them firing Bowles during the season ... I don't see them embarassing Bowles like that . Bates is just as big a horror show as Bowles... the guy lacks any imagination where it comes to playcalling.
Bates get in his own head and calls more sideline 2 Sildeline plays than I've ever seen... I thought having all the receivers back we'd have a better chance but the receivers (sans Q) looked like they have zero care. Robbie can only run a straight line. Kearse lost his hands 3 weeks ago. This is also a bi-product of Mikey Boy's buy low philosophy. You get a team of mediocre talent waiting for someone to step up....
