Bates (and Bowles) should be responsible for continuing to utilize the shotgun when it's obvious that Long can't long snap.
They need to give Long some time off to heal the hand. Harrison kind of sucks at blocking, but at least his snaps were clean.
The much better question is " Why the hell is Bowles still out there" . He needs to go now. Start the search for a real coach for next year. This game is on Bates and Bowles for sheer, complete incompetence. It was insanity continuing with the same game plan, shotgun for every pass, while keeping a C that is hurt and can not snap the ball. Talk about a major liability. We will be nothing but an embarrassment with this CS
Long looks absolutely miserable in the interview. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't think he's capable of being competent at the snap because of the injury. It's the coach's job to ultimately say you can't make it, it's time to sit down.
I don't blame Long at all for this mess. He knows how to snap, but he can't do it now because he's hurt. This is 100% on Bowles for playing him.
The reason Long is playing is because Harrison can't block for shit from the center position. Teams will start charging through the middle of the line and destroy our QB. However, to keep running plays from the shotgun after a month of errant snaps is asinine. Long should play, Sam should be under center, and the coaching staff should figure out a way to make it work.
What contract did we give Long? This is not entirely on him though as Bowles should have recognized for weeks now that he needed to be pulled and not playing.
Like I said, it's hard to fully blame him bc he is playing through injury. However, he has to figure out a way to manage it if he plans on still playing...
The coach should have seen this coming. his snaps have been awful since week 3. Time to replace the coach. Also was Kearse playing today? To many drops
Did they do any snaps during the week??? Why wait until Sunday and the middle of the game to find out he can’t snap
We had fajitas last night and I had turble gas all day today. Probably the par-cooked onions. Or the black beans.
I really don't think you can blame the GM for this situation. While I have read that Long was probably better suited for G rather than C, it's not Mike M.'s fault that Long got injured and the coaching staff continues to play to his weakness and continue to run the shotgun.
