Mac just rebuilt the scouting dept 2 years ago. The missing draft picks goes back 5 gms and 2 owners. What’s left to rebuild that hasn’t been?

I hear you but by year 3 of your franchise savior there shouldn’t be talk of rebuilding . Take a look at Tampa.

Well, looking at teams with good management, things happen on a much shorter timeline. We're not one of those teams. We get lucky on occasion when players fall into our laps, but rarely does a Jet blueprint actually bears fruit. We don't have anyone on the sidelines OR in the FO that knows how to build a consistent winner and that's because we only hire first timers that have to learn as they go. Ownership is absolutely clueless and there is no VPFO on the horizon. To meet a possible 1.5 year timeline, we're gonna need a proven Leader in the FO and on the sidelines, someone who knows what the modern NFL is about and what it takes to win. Since that ain't happening either, we're looking at 2020 and beyond barring a miracle.

The Jets were mostly competitive when they were drafting well on the OL. We had a good run back when we drafted Wayne and Keyshawn. That team had a strong OL with Mawae as the anchor. Even if we didn’t draft him, we did draft other pieces of that line that performed at a high level.

Then we snagged Brick and Mangold and built around them. Between the Mawae and Brick/Mangold eras the Jets were competitive.

As their play fell off, so did the Jets. Now they’re gone and we’re a low tier team. Seems simple to me: Build a nasty OL to protect Sam. If he has time, he’ll be able to turn average guys into solid contributors, and make play makers into All Pro’s.

Build it and wins will come.

Teams that draft good QBs have shorter time lines. If we did our time as a playoff threat will come soon. If not then yea, rebuild 2020

pretty much this^ you draft studs with high picks, hope you can land a few solid guys in the middle rounds but sign lower tier FAs to be role players and make an occasional splash or 2 on a big free agent but the best teams are build with trades, FA, and draft, the advantage of the draft is the first 4-5 years the player is very cheap comparatively. while other teams are paying 30mil a year for a good QB, darnold is costing us less then 10 mil a year for this year and the next 3 years so that's an extra 20 million to put elsewhere. if he plays like a pro bowl QB in year 2 that's a huge boost for us financially. the draft is about finding guys who can play way better then what they are getting paid as with FA you always overpay for what you get outside of role players which can be found very reasonably.

yeah we really struck gold that draft. we secured the 2 most important positions on the line with pro bowl players for a decade. I'd be happy if we can do that again soon

i'm hoping for a very offensive draft. defense really only needs a pass rusher which we can get in FA. for the draft i want a LT another lineman, a RB, and a WR so 4 out of 7 picks on offense at minimum. only defense i could see is a late pick on a CB or safety for depth and maybe a KR/PR if there is a good one out there

It's lifeless uninspiring football. Like others have pointed out the team makes the same mistakes over and over again. 7 pre-snap penalties halfway through the season. That screams no discipline or coaches not caring at this point.

Anyone that takes a sabbatical for 4 years is behind the curve. Football is a 24/7 life and if your heart ain't in your work will reflect that.

Then Bowles need to man up for the first time in his head coaching career and quit. He can't be that ignorant and believe he has a formula for turning this team around. This staff is the least creative staff in the history of football. Just quit you already got paid. New York and head coaching is not your thing. Its swallowed up much better coaches than you.

just for perspective, last night the pats they got penalized for not lining up right on offense, then a few plays later for not lining up right on a kickoff. that's 2 presnap penalties in a span of minutes on the pats who have one of the best coaches in the NFL

Did you expect us to be playoff contenders this year? If you did your expectations were not aligned with reality.

2019 is and has been the year to start raising the bar.

Come back and talk about that after 3-5 games. The Jets do it every single game. I bet you the New England staff is addressing it in practice this week, looking at the game film and coaching the players at fault. Did New England win the game? People would overlook that stuff if a team is winning or playing football at their level.

KC is the 3rd most penalized team in the NFL and pitt is most are you saying ried and tomlin are bad coaches?

your last line is pretty much the only thing i agree with you on. as they say winning cures everything and people overlook mistakes when you win and blow up mistakes when you lose

I bet you a majority of the folks here and in JetsLand wouldn't care a lick about the penalties if the Jets were winning. But losing brings out the nitpicking and it all seems to point back at Bowles. If he were winning he would be getting the credit for sure. But he's not and he's going to get the bull eyes of criticism. That is part of the job description. No one would ever say Reid and Tomlin are bad coaches. But people are surely saying Bowles is. Those two have winning seasons almost every year. Keyword there winning.

i get that for sure. winning cures everything as they say the problem with pointing all the issues towards 1 person or thinking better teams don't have holes or issues is what gets people in trouble. The giants pointed all their issues at the coughlin and pushed him out the door thinking it'll fix things. they gave mcadoo 1 year and pointed all their issues at him and the GM. they fired both, now with a new GM and head coach they are as bad as ever but hey it's what the fans wanted right? the magical scapegoat that if you replace them you win a SB. reality is far from that. now they see more issues in their roster and are starting over, they missed out on darnold and pissed away 2 years blaming the wrong people. they were better off keeping coughlin and replacing eli 2 years ago. most teams issues are easily solved by a FQB if darnold becomes that whoever is the HC at the time will get the credit, same with the GM if mac is gone but in reality it was mac and danrold that "solved it"

Yes, the Giants are worst now. But they have real owners and they will fix it. They didn't get Darnold but Barkley is a stud and they will trade Beckham at some point and get a bucket load of draft picks. I bet the Giants won't extend a bad coach like the Jets did.

Gonna be 8 years without a playoff appearance. What's the Jet's longest playoff drought? I think we are nearly there. Just when you think you go back to the dark days anymore.
