well 25% of the season has come and gone and after a huge opening start the jets find themselves 1-3 with an anemic offense. so how can we fix these issues going forward? 1) Trade for bell ok people are going to say this is dumb but hear me out. Pitt wants a 2nd and a good player but that's not going to happen and every day that goes by his value goes down. they aren't doing well either at 1-2-1 and need to turn things around. as of now they have 0 production from bell and if they let him walk and use him for the 6 weeks they'll get at best a 3rd rounder in 2020 com pick which is about as good as a 4th-5th rounder in 2019. So here is the deal I propose. Jets trade a conditional pick and powell to the steelers. The conditional pick is a 6th rounder which goes up to a 3rd rounder IF bell stays a jet in 2019. Why it makes sense for both sides? Jets - we get an instant upgrade at RB for 2018 which will help darnold a lot as he learns to play QB in the NFL. If we can't resign him we only lose a 6th rounder for 2019. we don't lose powell as he's gone after this season regardless. we have crowell, cannon, and maguire still to. powell being gone isn't a big deal. It's inevitable. If we keep bell we get a top 3 RB to help darnold for the foreseeable future (probably 3-5 years) and only give up the pick we got for teddy which cost us 1 million dollars. If anyone was to say we would trade you bell for 1 million dollars or bell for teddy anyone would take that. it just makes sense Pitt - they get some much needed help. They get a good RB that is a smart vet. Conner has done well but he doens't catch or block as good as powell does. I see him whiff on blitz pickups far too often. Ben gets a vet in the backfield with him he can trust. They get a great locker room guy and a veteran leader which they badly need. They also get rid of the distraction of bell and create cap space and worse off they get a 6th rounder but most likely they get a 3rd rounder in 2019. They are a SB contending team this year and powell can help and take a load off Conner. and a 3rd rounder in 2019 is better then a 3rd rounder in 2020 as a comp pick. Worse case they can keep powell and get a 6th rounder. It makes sense for both sides to get this deal done. 2) Bowles takes back playcalling on D he needs to step up. period. bowles is conservative with the ball but he's always been aggressive on the Defensive Side. Rodgers is not. he plays it too safe. Our D is playing well overall but losing out at the worst times. Too many times i see wide open WRs in the middle. we need to man up and send exotic blitzes. we finally have CBs that can play man we need to use that 3) Bowles tells bates to be more aggressive no more kid gloves on darnold. No more sticking to the run game when it isn't working. Looking at the saints/giants game, the saints offense was amazing. they ran a fake punt on 4th and 2 from their own 30 to keep a drive alive. they ran direct snaps, they got the ball in the hands of playmakers and it worked. we dont' do that. 4) Bowles needs to take some chances we are a nothing to lose, young developing team with low expectations and a rookie QB. go for it on some 4th downs. stop kicking FGs when we are down 3 scores in the 3rd quarter. run some trick plays. do a fake punt. anything to jump start this offense
- This zone blocking scheme on the OL should be tossed. It's clear this personnel can't execute. - Bowles also needs to be more aggressive as well. His timid approach to winning games has not worked up until this point. It seems his goal is to lose games "close" in the scoring column rather than be blown out.
75% of your turn-around plan is dependant on Bowles changing. Not gonna happen. And Bell? Great player...but we can't sign him till his contract is up. He'd be stupid not to shop himself to the highest bidder.
if that's the case then we only lose a 6th rounder in exchange for helping out rookie QB the rest of the season. I'd take that anyday
The offense isn't going to step up this year. With a rookie QB, no TE, and a D-minus level offensive line, how could it? Bell wouldn't change those things. The most we can hope for on offense is 1) Sam the man develops some Pro skills getting all these reps at practice and in-game, and 2) they eventually get the level where they can at least stay on the field a little longer so the Defense isn't gassed by the third quarter. The defense, on the other hand, is not playing up to their potential. There is plenty of room for immediate improvement on this side of the ball. I don't know if Bowles taking over defensive playcalling is going to help at this point, but what they're doing ain't workin'. I can't believe what the Jets are paying these corners--they might as well not even be on the field at times. The only good news, to my eyes, is that the LB corps is playing better than in past years under Bowles. Not better enough, but better. Same for Special Teams--better than the last couple of years, but still below average.
1) Fire Bowles - He won't change, he doesn't learn. Players don't get held responsible for poor play and poor attitudes. 2) Beef up the o-line through the draft. Our o-line is made up of has beens and never was's. The o-line is the foundation of the offense. Without a decent one, you can't run the ball and you can't pass. I'm a firm believer this is the biggest reason we struggle on offense. Adding Bell as a RB wouldn't improve our rushing game much. 3) Fire Kacy Rogers - He doesn't know what he's doing.
I have one simple change that could pay off big. Instead of using players like Enunwa and Herndon on those deep routes throw those to Robbie Anderson. Aside from the Detroit game this OC has been a disaster so far. Calling deep routes for those player s and barely using Anderson when he has used him it's usually on a short route where he's getting blasted by the defense. The one time they took a deep shot to him yesterday he had Ramsey one of the best CBs in the game beat but Darnold jjjjust missed him. I'm supposed to believe that Robbie Anderson all of a sudden can't get any seperation? Please.
1. Hire someone to stand next to Bowles and tell him when to take a timeout, and get in his face when he tries to be conservative and punt late in games. 2. Force Bates to move away from empty sets on both 3rd & 1 and 4th and 1. We don't have someone back there who needs a QB spy. 3. Have Darnold practive throwing deep to Robby Anderson all week. 4. Max protect Darnold more. They need to calm down his happy feet.
If Bell won't play for Pitt this year without a new contract, what makes you think he will play for NY without a new contract?
bell said he didn't want to play for pitt this year because he knows they have no intent for his long term health since he won't be there in 2019 and will run him into the ground. The jets would want to keep him around and fresh and will split him with crowell. different situation
There's no way to salvage this. We don't have 1 or 2 needs. We don't have a way to solve our problems in the middle of the season. Our problems start with coaching. Bowles has been absolutely horrible. Bates has been garbage for Darnold. And if reports are correct, Kacy Rodgers is garbage. If Bowles, Todd Fuckin Bowles, has to take over your job, you are junk. Our offensive line is terrible. They can not stop a nose bleed. With such a horrible offensive line, there is little the offense can do. Darnold is always running for his life and we have ZERO run game. ZERO. We have no pass rush whatsoever. NONE. Leonard Williams has had a very disappointing year, and our linebackers have been bad. We get no pressure on the QB. And don't give me the sack stat bullshit argument, our defensive stats and rankings are highly skewed because of the Detroit game. I'd love to see the stats on the defense post Detroit game, just to see how bad we really are. None of these problems can be fixed right now. Sorry to be blunt, but they just can't. Bowles needs to be canned. The entire coaching staff needs to start over. We need to draft and sign offensive lineman. We need to draft or sign a pass rusher. And we need a better offense for a potential franchise rookie QB. I feel like a fuckin Dolphins fan saying this, but, there's always next year
There's no way to really fix this mess mid-season. They need two guards and two tackles that are NFL worthy. Then Bates needs to figure out how to call NFL plays. If they're putting up points and grooming Darnold, it's not bad. If I'm Bowles, I'm calling up Darrell Bevell right now and offering him a consultant job. He's designed successful-ish offenses with shitty offensive lines. Plus, his overall work is much better than anything we've seen this year. And, hiring him should be a low cost way to light a fire under Bates... Apart from that, I don't see a way to fix this without severely mortgaging the future. Like the previous poster said, there's always next year... Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk
False start on the launching pad. Burns a time out and decides to punt. Back in the office Monday morning.
The only way this gets fixed is scheme change to try to mask the o line deficiencies. Getting bell doesn’t help and would be a wasted draft pick. They need to run some max protect 2 varying depth routes with a check down. Stop going empty backfield in 3rd and shorts, rollout more . Anything to give sam a half second more. Defense needs to play more man, tighten up and get jams on receivers, throw the timing off because we are not getting home fast enough to disrupt the qb’s throws with free releases. I’m hoping with maye back at center field we will see that.
