Let's hope so! If Bowles isn't fired, I'll bet he fires his BFF, or fires him to keep from being fired himself.
If he gets fired, who's gonna coach the team the rest of the season? Bowles isn't even competent, how is some lowly position coach gonna be any better?
Not sure he gets fired mid season or during the season. I think it would have to be an epic dumpster fire for that to happen. But I think a 4-12 season that looks a lot like that Thursday game is will end this for him rather quickly after the last game ends
I think most of it was Taylor's poor play. Based on what I've read, he has struggled in every game. I also saw the Steelers/Browns game and I think Mayfield would have won that game.
Yup. Hence why I'm skeptical that our defense is as good as 8th ranked in the league. Like I said, I think this is inflated due to the first game against Detroit
I think that Bowles is a liar. Had the Jets been backing off and giving a huge cushion to Taylor prior to his injury? No. Unless it was in Bowles' game plan to back off and play prevent as soon as they got the lead, he's lying, and if he isn't lying and that was part of his game plan, then he should be fired now (even if we don't have anyone capable of replacing him), because he's too freaking stupid and cowardly to be a HC at any level.
Agree. What really concerns me is his mentality as a "defensive minded" coach. Bowles came into this job as a glorified defensive coordinator who coached a dominant Arizona defense. But I haven't seen that "dominance" yet. And what really bothers me is that with any defensive coordinator, they would have been licking their chops when Mayfield came into the game. A rookie QB in his first start ever and you have the lead?! I would have imagined he would be smiling ear to ear ready to rip his head off. But instead, he backs off and let's him destroy the defense? I don't get it
At this point, I'd be shocked if Bowles comes back next year. Say what you want about Chris Johnson's no playoff mandate and his lack of football knowledge, but he did say there had to be progress. Another 5-11 season is not progress. We could easily be 3-0 or 2-1 with better coaching.
Not sure he backed off. Baker was getting the ball out a full second faster than Taylor was. That could make it look like Bowles backed off because the rush wasn’t getting there. My concern was why we were letting receivers get off and run free? No jam to give the rush a better chance and throw the routes off rythm?
I imagine it has a lot to do with the Jets' familiarity with Taylor from his Bills days. I think they had a great game plan to shut down Taylor, and--incompetently--no gameplan whatsoever for any other scenario. Because of my location, I've had the poor fortune of seeing all the Browns' games this year, and Taylor had been effective until he faced the Jets, so I don't think it was just because he sucks. I would venture to say that throughout Bowles' tenure, the Jets usually come into a game with a pretty good game plan, particularly on defense. But the coaching staff simply hasn't shown any ability to make adjustments as the game goes on. Like none. If anyone can cite more than a couple of exceptions, I'd genuinely like to hear them. I'd really prefer not to hold this opinion.
If he gets fired NC, I believe they would promote Bates as interim, keeps continuity on offense with Darnold. They can start coming up with a list of coaches they want to speak to when regular season is over. Im not saying I want that to be the case, it’s a hypothetical situation if Jets look as bad as they did on Thursday second half. There is a potential for another 1-15 season in the works. If the offense doesn’t get into gear.
Not for nothing, but Taylor's stats this year: 462 yards 2 TD 2 INT All with a 63.7 rating. He is statistically one of the worst QBs in the league. I think that had a lot to do with it
You're absolutely right! It makes zero sense. I don't believe that NFL games are rigged, but something like that sure makes it seem like they are. There's no other sensible explanation. Even if Bowles had thought it the right thing to do on the first TD drive by Cleveland, you'd think that when he saw how easily Cleveland marched down the field and scored, that he would have reverted back to how they had been covering/playing the rest of the game the next time Cleveland got the ball, but no, he continued the same stupid shit.
He ran well against the Steelers (77yds, TD), passed well against the Saints (94.6 PR). He did neither against the Jets.
I understand your logic behind it, but I'm not gonna sit here and go back and forth on whether Taylor has been good or not. He's awful, imo
I agree. But he hasn't been as awful against anybody else as he was against the Jets. That's my whole point.
The question is this? Is it going to make any difference? Taking over such a small amount of play calling responsibilities in situations that don’t happen a lot throughout the course of the game means nothing.
