Sorry, but that's lame. This is a rebuilding team. Even on the top teams, you don't have great depth at every position, but there are 53 players on the roster for a reason. If they aren't competent and capable of playing, then they shouldn't be on the team, and when your owner has said that this season isn't about wins and losses, but rather showing improvement, it doesn't matter if the player you bring off the bench is awful. You're still punishing the player who committed the offense and you're showing him and the team that their actions have consequences, affect their teammates, and affect the team's W-L record.
When a 'leader' like Mo' continually ignores warnings about tardiness multiple times until he's finally benched for a game, clearly shows a lack of respect for Bowles. As if that wasn't bad enough, what Jamal Adams said about the 'culture' of last year's team is disgraceful. Being a 'player's coach' is great and all, but you better have shitload of playoff wins to back up that approach, of which, Bowles has NONE. Rex, for all the buffoonery, had 4 playoff wins before his buddy/buddy approach with the players wore thin...
It really does not help when vet free agents like Crowell and Johnson act out. That's part of the problem of adding vets FA's to a young team. You better get guys who know how to act or the young guys looking at them are going to be in trouble.
I wouldn't mind that either. In fact - maybe it's about time Jets got someone with offensive background. So if Jets are not getting someone with offensive background and sufficient experience, I wouldn't mind college rank coaches either. Speaking of which - how does Kliff Kingsbury look?
For those concerned that the Jets don't have enough depth to bench anyone, it should be noted that at the time Hodges yanked Jones he was the leading hitter in the National League. Wikipedia says this about the story: "Jones believes that the fear instilled in other players by the incident was the turning point in the season."
Have you a reason for this suggestion ? On a brief check, the guy has a losing record and consistently one of the worst defences in the league.
A number of QBs in the NFL came from his program. Namely, Patrick Mahome and Baker Mayfield of late. [Mayfield only played in his freshman year then transferred out.] Also a few things: he is indeed improving the Texas tech program. Their defense was absolutely horrible before he tagged along, and the defense has improved quite a bit as of late. On top of this, his team always ranks very high in the offense. So - I was thinking, why the hell not?
Its all about accountability. I believe no player wants to let his teammates down. Being singled out sends the strongest message that you are letting your fellow teammates down and that is unacceptable. Bowles has no clue about this and just wants another contract extension. Coaching without any illusion of winning is primo.
I say we use the trade package we had in place for Khalil Mack and trade for a coach. IE one of the Sean’s. McDermott or Payton.
Jets are a third rate organization that has to settle for acquiring third rate talent. Even the pathetic Browns didn't want to retain Crowell, so that right there should tell you something about him. Judging from all these moronic boneheaded plays, it appears that certain Jets players have little or no respect for the coaching staff, nor the team. As a result, expect Bowles to completely lose the locker room towards the end of the season, as these things will add up and create division amongst the ranks. The same thing happened to another coach in his final season, Rex Ryan, who also had no clue on how to discipline players
