Note for Bates: You can only run the wide reciever screen so many times before the defense figures it out
I'm not surprised that the Bates backers are not around tonight but when they do show up it might be helpful to see if they are still all in with "the brightest offensive mind in the building" story. I wouldn't even be surprised if Bates went walkabout on his own again; maybe he just needs a bit more motivation. In the spring I asked what it was that promised he was the guy for the bigger OC job when there was nothing he exhibited as the QB coach that indicated a promotion was in order; any insight fellas? You know who you are; do you still believe?
Bates didn't call a good game, but we have an offensive line that was being man handled last night. Sam barely dropped back and the pocket was collapsing on him consistently. Jets have ignored o-line for far too long and although we may have 100 mil in cap for 2019, we will absolutely need to go ahead and get some o-linemen.
Oh absolutely. At some point run a WR screen and go. Last night i would bet if they Pumped to Q, we would have had a wr running free down the sideline. The entire D would have jumped. Make adjustments !
I said the same thing, after running the first 4 WR screens, we could've pumped and ran a go route Or ran play action from the off-tackle runs that were gashing the Browns D Or lined a TE to chip Garrett on pass plays to help the O-line out Or ran a RB screen to slow the pass rush down (we ran a TE screen with Tomlinson that picked up 12 yards) NO, no, no.....instead any play that nets positive yards, we can run back to back, GENIUS! Bates is a moron, I'd rather Sam push the ball down field and make mistakes that way, instead of dinks and dunks that go no where 1st down, run 2nd down run 3rd down pass play short of the sticks Punt
Doesn't stretch the field, doesn't run RB screens against aggressive defense, keeps running out wide when running through the middle is working well, abandons the run when it's the only thing that's working, never uses play action when they had the running game tearing them up. Garbage.
When you have to deal with an OL that is constantly getting over-run by the opponent's defense, there is no logical formula for play calling that an OC can implement. They were def playing scared after Baker came on the field. This game should be the definition of "Playing Not To Lose"
