Sure, but what is he available for? He was a former first round pick coming off of a 10 sack season (8 with 2 in the playoffs). Gotta imagine at least a third, maybe a conditional 3rd that could become a 2nd depending on performance? It would have to be a 2020 2nd round pick, which is something I'd give up for an up and coming 24 year old pass rusher.
I'd love Fowler Jr. because we shouldn't have to trade too much for his services and I'd absolutely kill for a FA addition of Jadeveon Clowney but I'm not really too high on Anthony Barr. I know he's a great tackler and excellent in pass coverage as an OLB but throughout 4 season's of play he's only put up 10.5 sacks and if we're looking for an animal pass rushing OLB I'm not sure he's the one. The Vikings run a 4-3 defense so I understand his job isn't to pressure the QB as would a 3-4 OLB but nonetheless I'd rather see him prove his pass rushing abilities before committing long term.
the raiders will have at least $60 mill in cap room next year. they can easily franchise mack in 2019 and 2020
I wouldn't say easily. Khalil Mack does not seem to be flinching, at all. He could just as easily hold out and refuse to play another single down for Oakland. And that's when it'll become a lose/lose situation for both parties. I don't understand Oakland as a Front Office. As you mentioned, they've got the available salary cap space in order to sign him long term. He's their most dominant player. He's record over 40 sacks since being drafted 4 years ago. Has more than exceeded expectations as that of a former 5th overall draft selection. No off the field trouble. Has never been a locker room cancer. A 3x Pro Bowler and a 2x All-Pro. Well deserving of 2016's Defensive Player of the Year honors. He's never even missed a single ball game dating back to being drafted etc, etc. What is Oakland doing? What more could they have asked for? What are they thinking? Why aren't they paying him? In my opinion; Oakland's refusal to treat their very own star player right and their refusal of paying their best player in Khalil Mack is going to come back and haunt them while sending a bad message to players around the league, especially up coming Free Agents. Who will then want nothing to do with the Raiders in terms of playing within the black hole. Oakland as a Front Office, to me... has handled this situation horribly.
No screw him regardless. He’d be Santanio Holmes 2.0 where he’d just use us for the money. He will also be entering the back end of his football life and would demand a hefty sum. No thanks.
I agree with you wholeheartedly; no half measures. The only thing I'd consider doing differently is a small draft pick add to Teddy in order to secure Fowler. Our defense is really going to struggle without a legit edge rusher; and Fowler is young enough to be a difference maker for years to come.
Whomever is drafted first overall in the draft most likely will not be the player Mack is!!! So Oakland can have the pick I'll take the player.
No the Raiders are tight against Cap this year but will have at least 80 million by the start of freeagency next year( 45 million plus a couple of no brainer cuts get them there ). Also the following year going to Vegas no state income tax will save them a lot of money to sign these players. If the Raiders do elect to trade K Mack during 2019 draft it's going to be costly to acquire.( so many teams would be mix. More teams = more it's going to cost in trade to acquire. The Raiders can afford paying K Mack under the franchise tag, and you aren't getting him for peanuts. We should start looking toward the draft to find our pass rusher .
Well, of course not. But but the time they're 27 years old (as is Mack currently)... Khalil Mack could either be out of the league or way past his prime and a shell of his former self by then. No thanks.
Nah. This only holds true if he was drafting need. He didn't do that until later iN the draft in every draft so far. Those picks have panned out in ways more than the earlier round picks. I mean, we drafted Leo at a time it didn't seem feasible at all. One example and there has been several others.
