What to do with Smith? After the last few games Smiths impact on the game has worn away and teams now expect something to happen , unless hes on the field more??? Seems like a gamble....

I still feel that we cannot keep using him in games now unless we let him have a few passes. Teams need to fear that he may run or pass, the way we have used him lately he is just being used as a decoy in the running game and its not working.

Also he seems to be losing playing time to J-Mac in recent weeks, and thats a little disapointing. Maybe J-Mac has worked himself back into the team but i want to see what we have in Smith for the coming seasons, he is the future. J-mac is not.

I think Smith could have a good future with the Jets, but it might take him some time to learn how to dependable reciever. I would like to see the Jets use him in some trick-passing plays.

Yeah, I'd like to see him do more than run and hand off... It looked like he may have been set for a pass last week but that play got blown up. They need to diversify what they do with him behind center.

All in all though, he's still a rookie learning his position and his best ball is still to be played. I think he will have a much bigger impact next season at WR.

jeez. he's a rookie, playing a new position. there are guys who've been WR's their who lives and still need time to adjust to the NFL. Smith is transitioning to both the NFL and WR. give him some time.

but i agree - and i've been saying this since the pre-season - we need to lay low on the trick/gimmick stuff with him and just use him normally for awhile. not only will that help him learn, but it'll be much more difficult to predict what he's going to do down the road.

    cheers

You can't blame Smith for not producing - they need smarter trick plays for him. There are so many better ways to use Smith than what the Jets have been doing. Lining him up behind center won't work at this point unless you let him pass because everyone knows he's going to immediately take off with the ball. Why not use him on a reverse instead? Or have Chad hand off to him and give him the option to either run or pass from there?

We should scrap the Brad Smith rb expirement now. They arent working and we are wasting plays. Why not run the same end around play that we did in the pre-season?

That play worked but we have never run it again.
or fake the end around to him.

I like that, fake the end around and throw to Coles deep....

It seems every time he's lined up at shotgun QB, its either a keeper, or a handoff......

when is smith gonna get a chance to throw the ball?

maybe vs. miami? or the vikings? any takers?

anyways, i think next year, once smith gets better accustomed to the nuances of playing receiver, we will see more out of him...for this season i guess he is stuck in his gimmick role...and he is a hell of a special teams player

This is exactly what I was saying earlier in the season. If we use him too much on gadget plays, then the defense will always be wise to it when they see him enter the game. He has to become a WR first, then the trickeration can begin.

Myself along with a few others have said that the best way to use Smith right now is as a decoy.

    But...
Of course i'm still witing to hear this call from Weschusen:

    Pennington takes the snap....
..hands it off on a sweep to Washington
who hands it off on a reverse to Smith!......
Smith running to the sideline Looks to throw it!....
........has a WIDE OPEN Coles ....CAUGHT!!!! @ the 16
and Coles will walk into the Endzoooooone!!!

    Touchdown JETS!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they'd use the word sweep, would be too early in the play to tell by the time he handed it to Smith. Otherwise, it sounds good. More likely:

    Pennington takes the snap....
    ..hand off to Washington
who gives it to Smith on the reverse!......
Smith looking to reach the corner, now he looks to throw it!....
........has a WIDE OPEN Coles ....INTERCEPTED!
    what was he thinking!

Yea, Brad Smith is a weapon any time he is on the field, so lets use him more often. We are lucky to have him, so lets utilize him! Do one of those things where he lines up at the outside WR, way behind the line of scrimmage, and throw him the ball (make sure it is a backwards pass though). Then, have him run back towards Pennington and find a wide open Coles!!!!

    Except no picks!
