Mayfield had an excellent line. Instead of stepping up in the pocket, he liked to move a little bit. Not good in the NFL, Mayfield will learn the hard way. On most of Mayfields throws, they were to people wide open, or with the defender trailing behind. It's not that way in the NFL. Mayfield is a system QB. Talks tough, wants us to believe he is NFL tough, but I don't believe he is.
Also important to point out Darnold was 20 (has since turned 21) so he will probably gain a little bit on his fastball. And regarding velocity...I see what you mean on some throws it doesn't look like the ball is coming out with much zip. But I think it's just because he knows what kind of touch to put on the ball depending on the situation. And that's why everybody always says he throws a catchable ball To me the age and room for growth matters. Darnold has more room to grow and get better. Not saying Mayfield doesn't but I believe when you look at Sams size and natural athletic ability...he's good now and will only improve while Mayfield is closer to a finished product having come out as a super senior. Also can't help but mention that Mayfield has looked disappointing thus far and isn't even in the discussion to challenge Tyrod Taylor for the job. Darnold on the other hand may start from day 1 and is wowing coaches and teammates. It could just be that Darnolds style translates better to the NFL than Mayfields
yeah it's beyond stupid people can't grasp the difference between a completed pass and an accurate throw. LMAO yeah there were a ton. but a leaping 1 handed grab and a ball placed right in the hands and dropped are 2 different things. I said this studying the film during the draft and people ignored it becuase they were baker fanboys. funny a stat comes out and confirms exactly what i said I know right. it's almost as if i knew what i was talking about and people are kinda bull headed
Had this argument with several here leading up to the draft. They kept repeating completion percentages as an indication of how accurate a particular QB was. When I responded with comp percentages aren't the same as accuracy it was ignored or ridiculed.
i know i was right there with you buddy. there were like 4 or 5 of us that were anti mayfield and watched the film arguing with a bunch of people who only quoted stats
And he went with the first overall pick when you guys laughed at the idea he wouldn’t be available at 3
Too funny. The old "I was right ha ha" even before fucking training camp, lol. Like it's decided. Okay. We'll see. Love it. Some people are just never wrong tho.
Bingo. mayfields skill set made him a great college QB but not a great fit for an NFL QB. Darnold has the skill set of a stud NFL QB similar to rodgers. Mayfield has the skill set to be at best a good game manager running a specific offense and at worst a complete bust. his ceiling is jeff garcia
Perfect timing. Someone wrote an article about how Darnold fits into Bates’ WCO. Good read. https://twoqbs.com/qb-profiles/finding-the-fit-sam-darnold-and-the-new-york-jets/
That changes what? That the Cleveland Browns are still the Cleveland Browns? If not for those idiots who knows where he would have fallen?
We put up with a lot of insults for not believing in the little guy. Can help it but notice the obvious, Darnold made more difficult and impressive throws in one game than Mayfield made in his last season. Stats without context are meaningless.
I had a feeling Mayfield COULD go #1, but didn't think the Browns were dumb enough to actually do it.
Agreed. I figured behind Darnold and then would be dependent on who someone liked, Rosen and his pro ready game and personality issues or Mayfield and his fiery personality
