I guess Donahue was a cut also. Nice job edge.

Take a look at Turn On the Jets 53 prediction. They solve my concern with only keeping two TEs by keeping just two QBs instead and they keep Cooper as a 7th lineman (something I was tempted to do) instead of the ninth LB.

I am not sure I like his choice of Robinson in the 6 CBs. I prefer the kid from Michigan (Clark) if he is over his injury finally.

I agree with his statement that there are going to be some terrific camp battles this year.
    Can't wait.

I like Thomas, but I don't see any way that he beats out Flowers for the FB job. He was very inconsistent last year, and towards the end of the season, I read that he was being replaced by someone else (but I forget who) as FB.

I also don't think they keep 6 OLBs, so Bishop and Maulding are the odd men out.

Finally, I think Pennel makes not only the roster over Cooper, I think that he sees the majority of the snaps at NT.

I think TOJ is nuts. IMO the only way the Jets keep only 2 QBs is if Teddy just isn't healthy and Hack has shown little or no improvement. Even then, they may sign someone to hold the clipboard. In general, QBs get injured at a fairly high rate, and with McCown being older, more brittle and injury-prone, and the Jets' OL being questionable at best, they would be nuts to keep only 2 QBs.

Keeping Robinson is also nuts imo. He showed little last season. I agree regarding Clark.

The legend of Charone Peake continues.

I can't wait to see Peake, Devin Smith and Jalin Marshall battle it out

Since Bates supposedly likes to run 2-TE sets, I see no way that the Jets keep only 2 TEs, even with Flowers and Enunwa's versatility. I think they keep 3, and maybe even 4 TEs. I also don't see Rose beating out Santos or Burris beating out Roberts.

Jalin was cut earlier. Smith is here to avoid a lawsuit. Peake wins on attrition. :)

LOL, have to admit a lot of filler there. Im thinking we get a better option as a castoff than from one of the options already here. Plus another has to go when Anderson returns from his suspension.

As I stated earlier, I think there are going to be some very tough decisions for the Jets's CS to make regarding the final roster. In a perfect world, I think the Jets might like to keep more WRs, TEs, CBs and maybe even LBs, but the numbers are just too tight. Especially if Bates wants to run a lot of 2-TE sets, I think they will keep 3 TEs, but ideally would keep 4, but with the numbers, I just don't see how they can do it. Being a former DB and with the way he likes to mix and match DBs considering the opponent, I think he'd really like to keep 7 or 8 CBs, but will only be able to keep 6.

With the injury histories of both Long and Swanson, I think the Jets are forced to keep 8 OL. Bowles has said that he will finally have the kind of depth that he has been wanting for the DL, so for that reason, along with Anderson's injury history and both Shephard and Fatukasi being rookies, I think he keeps 7 DL.

At ILB I think Minter makes it over either Hewitt or Pierre-Louise due to his experience, being better, and Bowles' prior experience with him in Phoenix. Pierre-Louis has played on better defenses and has probably had better coaching than Hewitt, but Hewitt's production looks better and he's a year younger, so I'm guessing he gets the nod over Pierre-Louis for the final ILB spot. At OLB, I think that Bass is better than Copeland and wins the 4th OLB spot.

At CB Roberts is more consistent and has more experience than either Clark or Jones, and Burris seems to have lost his confidence and fallen out of favor. I think Roberts gets the final CB spot and Clark and Jones go to the PS.

Following is my take on the roster. * denotes starter.

    OFFENSE - (24)
    OL - (8)

    Beachum*
    Carpenter*

    PRACTICE SQUAD - (10)
    Hodges, TE
    Luvu, LB
    Golson, OL
    Shepley, OG
    Middleton, S
    Jones, CB
    Thomas, FB/DE
    ?
    ?

EDIT: The addition of Garcia could change things significantly. He may not be ready to replace Qvale or Ijalana, but I don't think he'd make it to the PS, as some other team would claim him or sign him off the PS. If the Jets want to keep him, they'll probably have to keep him on the roster. That means one less player somewhere else. My guess would probably be at CB, especially if the Jets wind up signing Vaccaro.

its tough to predict them, but you never know with Peake, when he was a rookie there was some positive talk on him. Had a setback last year, maybe he comes back better then ever.

I sure thought Peake was a steal in the draft, and was going to be great for us. Last year he was listed as #4 on the depth chart going into the season, so he must have impressed somebody in camp---then he got hurt and missed the whole year, basically.

Consider my expectations lowered. But he is certainly capable of making this roster if he shows up ready to play.

Hopefully Darnold makes them better, that's a trait not a lot of QBs have. The ability to make those around him better. Thats your Drew Brees, Tom Bradys, Aaron Rodgers type qualities. Maybe only 3 to 4 QBs in this league have that quality. You got yourself a good WR coach and a QB like one of the 3 above, you will churn production from whatever WR is out there. Of course they should be talented, but you dont need AJ Greens.

If we got Cousins, I don't think he would've brought that to the table.

    QB- McCown-Bridgewater-Darnold
    RB- Crowell-Powell-McGuire
    FB- Flowers
    WR- Anderson-Pryor- Enunwa-Hanson- Kearse-Stewart-Roberts(PR/KR)
    TE- Leggett- Herndon-Tomlinson
    OL- Beachum-Carpenter-Long-Winters-Shell-Ijalana-Swanson-Qvale
    DE- Williams-Anderson-Cooper-Shepherd
    DT- McClendon- Pennel-Fatukasi
    OLB- Martin-Jenkins-Donahue- D. Bass
    ILB- Lee-Williamson- Pierre Louis- Minter
    CB- Johnson- Claiborne-Skrine-Burris-Clark-Nickerson
    S- Adams-Maye-Middleton-Brooks
    ST- Santos-Edwards-Hennessey

    PS-
    RB- Cannon
    WR- Peake
    T- Garcia
    T/G- Golson
    G- James
    DE- Pelon
    LB- Luvu
    LB- T. Williams
    CB- D. Jones
    CB- Coleman

    Up for grabs:
McGuire could lose his spot to Cannon, especially if Cannon PR/KR.
Walford could easily claim a TE spot, in fact, I would prefer he did. Boot Tomlinson if Herndon is a competent enough blocker.
McClendon has a small chance of getting cut with big money to Pennel to be on field more this year, but McClendon had very good year last year.
Pierre Louis is making team over hewitt based on contract signing.
I like Minter as the backup to Williamson, they are the same type player.
Tons of options at OLB, but I really liked D. Bass in his limited role last year. Office seems high on Donahue before injury and off the field issues.
Burris/Roberts will be a battle for backup CB.
Can Clark REALLY run with the outside WR's in the NFL? He's a BIG dude.
Middleton is my favorite underdog. Kid was a baller at Appy State. Time to move on from Miles, see what the kid has.

Practice squad is admittedly heavy on OL, but we need to see what we have in Garcia/Golson/James, especially with Carpenter in last year of contract.

It's a fluid time of the year regarding the roster.

I remember reading an article last year in the offseason about how Bowles wanted Clark to become his big nickel LB in the role that Deone Buchanan excelled in with AZ. With his size and athleticism I think its an intriguing option and hope to see it this year.

I'd be really surprised if McGuire is beaten out by Cannon.

I agree regarding Walford making the roster. I don't know that I'd want to boot Tomlinson. If Bates will be using a lot of 2 -TE offensive sets, then he may insist on keeping 4 TEs.

I'd be mildly surprised if McClendon doesn't make the team since he did play well, and Bowles was talking earlier about he finally had the DL depth he wanted and how McClendon could also play DE. Still, he could wind up being cut due to a numbers thing combined with his age and salary.

I don't think the Jets will be able to keep Garcia on the PS. He probably won't even clear waivers the first time. I think they'll have to keep him on the roster, if they want to keep him.

McGuire will compete with Rawls, not Cannon.

Cannon is competing with Roberts and Whitehead.

There's some excellent information in this thread, and all of the posters who are going into such excellent detail deserve to be thanked. My takeaway is, that for the first time in several seasons, we seem to be building a roster with some genuinely good NFL depth, which bodes well for both our present and future!

That's what I thought, but that's not what the poster I was responding to said.
