I know in part superbowl odds reflect the amount of money being wagered as well as the perceived chances of winning but just out of curiosity I had a look and with UK bookies at least the Jets are considered the least likely team to win the SB with odds of 200:1
I have a friend who only bets once a year. He bets $100 for Jets representing AFC in the Superbowl. He claims if Jets ever make it to the Superbowl he can use the winnings to pay for flight, hotel and game ticket. Not this year but next year I might start doing the same.
If he started betting in 1970, he would have wasted $4,800 on his bets. with that money, if he just kept it in a shoebox instead of betting on our loser Jets, he could've already paid for a flight, hotel and superbowl game ticket by now.
Never bet on the Jets! Ever! Everybody knows that, you idiot! That's like betting on PCBs and sludge in the Hudson River dumped by GE! What about poison and cancer do you not understand! Why don't you just bury those pennies you've been saving to gamble so someone can dig them up if the world is still here in 20 years! What a cheapskate! Did you clean out the litterbox and put the dishes away! Signed, -Mrs. championjets69
If only I could get the same odds for betting against the Jets every year, I would have built my dream house and retired years ago.
I suspect part of the reason our odds are so bad is it is just assumed the Pats will win the division and so our only route is through the wild card
I'm sure that has something to do with it, but overall the odds makers look at "probability", if a team has a long history of success, stable management and so forth, then of course the odds will always be better.
I know but I really don't think we are the worst team in the NFL - one of the worst, but not THE worst
What are the odds on the Browns, Bills, Bears, Bucs, or Bengals? I think all the teams that start with "B" will be worse than the Jets this year, except maybe the Broncos. That said, they may be the only 5 teams that will be worse....
We only have to beat out 15 teams to get into the SB! We came within 15 mins of this twice with Nacho under center. Maybe there's some magic to having a rookie QB and a HC who coaches like a rookie!
That certainly justifies the Jags' odds. It's like you think every letter you type will get that Pats dong deeper down your throat.
Yeah, I don't understand that. It seems somebody predicts Jets as the worst team every year. The Jets were at least competitive with decent teams last season and finished the 6th worst team. Did they really get worse during the off season in their eyes?
The pats* may have something to do with it. Our image is bad nationally and the media has a part in that. That Woody thought that a circus clown act was a good thing didn't help that. I think the early odds reflect that sometimes. Those odds may change before the season starts. But in the link you see the bottom three are NY, Buf, and Miami. The over/under win total could be a spot to hit on if the number is real low also. http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/futures/
In 1963 just about every plane flying over Shea Stadium, the source of the name, was a Boeing. What might have been if nobody tried to rhyme with Mets...
Don't knock sludge in the Hudson River. That is the path to transcendence for those daring enough to brave it. Taking a dip in the magical pool of diarrhea has even been known to unlock some people's latent psychic potential.
