Apples and oranges. McCown didn't need any development, Petty did. I'm not saying Petty was a great prospect, but I believe he's better than what he showed, and I fault the CS for not getting more out of him (and Hack). I pray that Darnold is "immune" to their methods.
I did some googling just for the hell of it. Ryan Lindley was in the league for 6 seasons ... Petty might make it if he increases the difficulty in Madden. But I wouldn't count on it.
Petty would have a lower cap cost than Hackenberg but you can't say we didn't give him a chance before cutting him.
Anyone can say what they want about Petty, but give him this... dude was tough as hell. Both Jets tackles just let the Fins in, and he completes a pass anyway while getting destroyed. BTW, both of those guys should have been cut on the spot. Hate seeing that shit. EDIT: LT at least engaged with a defender. RT just stood there. Slow down the video and see him not even try to engage. He definitely was letting Petty get killed.
Like I’ve said before, we was given a shit sandwich and ate it with an omnipresent smile. Really good dude. Hope he catches on somewhere.
Best thing to have happened to Petty since he arrived in NY. Too bad the Jets drafted this kid at all. Good Luck Bryce Petty! Hopefully you'll get another chance somewhere else.
