I think he bought himself another year missing out on Cousins. His qb pick this year has to be a starter next year or he's gone.

Im not so sure our roster is rotten, it has holes yes but there is a foundation there.

EDIT: As I wrote this I take it back. No O-Line, no pass rusher, a mess at the LB position. But other than that I do feel decent about our roster as of right now. But the o-line is egregious. Im trying to be optimistic that there is a core though.

When are we having lunch? There's some good food trucks on the Austin south side.

We have another $100 million in cap space next year. Mac has made moves, the team just needs to figure it out now at the QB position and protect him

How are they going to protect him when the best they have done is sign a backup center?

Mac has done a 5 Star job so far this offseason. The table is set to draft Josh Allen and have a boatload of cap to build around him.

The center we signed can't be anything but an improvement over the one who started for us all of last season.

Its just unfortunate that the Jets are in dire need of a quarterback (yet again) when so many other teams at the top of the draft are also in dire need of a quarterback, and all of the top quarterbacks available this year have their own, serious risks/flaws. Compare this year to 2004 for example, when Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Ben the rapist all went in the top 11 picks. This year the top three quarterbacks will be drafted higher than that, and you can be sure that they wont all still be in the NFL in a few years. Mac just didn't have the luxury of patience, even if it was the smart move, so hopefully whoever we draft will work out.

Law of Averages or just the Terry Bradway School of Offensive Line Management?

Don’t get the Mac hate. I think he’s in the process of building a very good and sustainable roster, something jets fans aren’t used to. And we’re set up to lead the league in cap space next year.

This year is just another building block. Next year we will really know.

I questioned Mac s moves the last couple of years but still support the guy because he (and Bowles) deserve every shot to build this team in the right direction. We need a good draft and luck as we still have too many holes but if the cap space some said here is true for next year, then we re on a good path way to building a good team for years in the near future.Draft a QB for the future whoever they feel is the answer and draft some key 3rd and 4th picks.

If Mac didn't make the move for a QB I think he would be on the hotseat this year. However, with the acquisition of the 3rd overall pick and now the possibility of drafting our FQB, I think he landed himself at least two years.

This is the new nonsensical story, the one where no one want to come here. How many FAs that we really wanted have we missed out on? Cousins, which had nothing to do with the team, market or media. And where and when did the NY/NJ area become the only part of the country where you pay taxes? Decker, Marshall, Revis, Mo, Cro, Forte, QBs, CMartin, etc, etc all didn't care about of any of this nonsense.

I just cannot imagine a player, who started for another NFL team, being any worse than the dumpster fire that was Wesley Johnson last season.

Why would you feel bad for Maccagnan? They are in their fourth year and have criminally ignored or completely missed on the QB question which has forced their hand with having to trade up. Also, Cousins was obviously the #1 option, even if you're a losing team, or a winning team like the Vikings, the chance to upgrade the QB position and instantly elevate your team is enticing and if you have the cap to pull it off, its something to aggressively try to achieve.

Maccagnan was hell bent on signing Cousins - which was Plan A, but quickly pivoted to Plan B which was to fill out a bunch of the roster in order to trade up to get a QB at 3. Do not think that the preference to sign Cousins means he has no belief in the QB's coming out. If he felt that way he would have stayed at 6 and hoped one fell to him.

This was admirable on Maccagnans part IMO and he deserves praise for it.

In the end, the Jets have traditionally upheld this mediocre state where they're never too bad to be the #1 pick in the draft, but never too good to be in the playoffs. This is because the Jets haven't drafted well since they picked up revis, mangold, brick. Maccagnan has shown he can select and identify some talent, but his drafts, specifically the earlier ones, are not exactly great. He's going to have to pick a QB at 3 that can come in, learn quickly, and play soon because a 5-11 year may mean both he and Bowles are gone, which is warranted given their tenure thus far.

The plan for 2018 is to draft a QB, but allow McCown and Teddy hold the fort down. We don't want to rush the rookie QB to play, but let's not turn this into a Hack situation where he gets selected high and hasn't gotten on the field at all.

All in all, I don't feel bad for either Macc or Bowles and as nice and professional they are, we haven't made the playoffs in almost a decade. If you're making personnel/coaching decisions for a team, you best hope they are the right ones because nothing in the NFL is guaranteed.

But, after trading up, and making a lot of impact signings this offseason, but with more than 100+ million in cap space for next offseason, the 2018 season is going to be about progress, and about building on a young, but very nice core, and creating an identity.

I'm excited to see who Macc and Bowles hedge their future on in 1 months time.

Somehow he got signed to the Lions despite being ranked by PFF as the worst starting center in the NFL. Yes, I agree you could pretty much bring in anyone and see an improvement.

4500 Yards a 65% completion percentage 25 to 30 TD's a year. LOL. Jet fans would cream their pants to have a "pedestrian" QB like Stafford. Take a look at the NFC right now. It's QB loaded. Stafford would be top 3 in the AFC right now.
