The Jets are traveling to Okalahoma for a private workout with Baker on Saturday. He is also coming to Florham Park for a visit.

Clearly, Mac views Baker as a potential top 3 pick. If not, why waste your time? You have the 3rd overall pick and if Allen, Rosen and Darnold are your guys you’re guaranteed to get one of them...

Baker is a possibility at 3.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this already. Connor Hughes said that Mac doesn't give much clues and keeps everything close to the vest. He will be at every pro day so that's not a tell. He said if you are trying to look for clues as to where he is leaning, pay attention to who accompanies him to the pro-days. For example, Bates accompanied him at Rosen's pro day but not Mayfield's. What does that say?

Looks like Bates isn’t at Darnold’s either.

I’m still 100% convinced that Rosen is their guy, but I’m just suggesting it’s not a sure thing they take Allen if Rosen is gone. I think Baker is on the table.

Russell Wilson didn't have anywhere near College career as Mayfield had. He did have a monster season in his senior year, but was subpar for 3 years before that, including junior year. And even in his best year, he is not a top 4 College player, like Mayfield was for 3 seasons in a row, including #1 overall in senior season (Wilson finished 9th in Heisman voting). Also important is that he is even shorter than Mayfield by quite a bit. The difference in height between Mayfield and Wilson is the same as between Mayfield and Cousins. If Mayfield is a couple of inches below prototypical size, which makes him short, Wilson is another two inches down, which drastically drops him as a prospect. And Wilson was picked early 3d round. So, Mayfield is far better prospect than Wilson coming out of College and should be picked much higher with top 10 as legitimate target due to far superior College career than Wilson and better size.

Pro days arent an indication to me. They will set up a private workout and thats where they can put a QB through his paces, see what they want to see or what to avoid in their QB. Pro Days are a little too scripted to make blanket decisions on what a QB is. Unless he falls on his face, thats an issue.

No, Wilson is the better athlete, uses his legs to make plays that Mayfield cant make. Small and elusive while having really good passing skills is what makes Wilson good.

Using this logic, with the same team, Landry Jones is a better QB than most.

Don't forget - he was a Juco guy before and got just one scholarship offer - from Wyoming. If let's say he wanted to go back to College, for him really the next step would be to try to get to one of the top conference and win a starting job there. Then try to make a name for himself in the upper echelon of NCAA. Something Mayfield already did 3 years ago, and proved to be top guy for these 3 years. Instead Allen is going pro with just a solid lower tier D1 school credentials, hoping to score big because of his size. I am sure someone will take a long shot chance at the end of the first, I just hope it won't be us at #3 overall.

Wilson certainly proved himself to be a top notch NFL QB, which Mayfield has not done yet. I was just explaining why he slipped in the draft and Mayfield won't.

Never mind, Bates is at Darnold’s pro day. Bowles is too. Hmmm.

First time I’ve seen him at one. Might be for defensive players though.

Wilson played for Wisconsin in a pro set. They weren't the dominant team in the division. Take a look at Wilson's lower body. He is built like a running back. This is the same problem I see when people compare LJ to Vick. LJ of course was a much better college QB. However if you go back and look at tape of Vick in college he was short and 210 and looked like an NFL running back coming out of college. LJ looks like a QB who likes to run. I see him beaking in the NFL unlike Vick. I look at Russell Wilson and I see an unbelievably strong base. Again he played in a pro set and was a highly mature person. Mayfield is blown up big but he doesn't have that naturally solid base that Wilson has. Wilson is also an amazing athlete. Mayfield is an undersized thrower who has played on a team that has mismatched talent relative to the competition he faced. Again if he matures and can make the leap he might be great. I don't see him as a top 5 pick but there are a lot of guys who make it who aren't top 5 picks who if they went top 5 it's hard to quibble about it. I just can't see NFL GM's putting a top 5 grade on him.

I get that, just saying that other than being short, theyre two different QBs.

Pouring rain at Darnolds pro day. Great for teams from the NE to add to the evaluation process.

And speaking of Landry, it's good you brought him up. Mayfield on the same team had 55 points more on average QB rating in Jr and Sr season than Landry. It's like a difference between best seasons of Brady and Manning and someone like Geno Smith when he started for us. Landry was never in top 10 consideration for Heisman, while Mayfield was top 4 for 3 years and won it. The comparison only shows why Baker is an excellent prospect. Btw, Landry was drafted 4th round and still makes a living as a backup in Pitts.

No, I'm saying that Landry Jones was productive in that conference, a top QB prospect up until his senior year, playing a gimmich offense and even as a 4th round pick was a wasted pick.

Also, 5 or so year difference on when they played at Oklahoma, not close to calling them the same team other than in name. Here's one analysts take on Landry. Not making a big deal to compare the two, just trying to show how easy it is to be wrong in this type of offense and with this level of competition

    Bucky Brooks:

The Oklahoma senior is arguably the most talented quarterback prospect set to be available in the 2013 NFL Draft, but he might not hear his name called on the first day of the event. That is certainly a shocking development for a player who was once regarded as a possible No. 1 pick

In 2012, Jones has shown flashes of brilliance, but he remains a mystery as a prospect despite putting up an impressive résumé. Jones has completed 66.4 percent of his passes with 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He's posted six 300-yard games, including back-to-back 500-yard games in the past two weeks. In addition, he has tossed at least two touchdown passes in nine of the Sooners' 11 games. Those numbers are certainly indicative of his potential as a franchise player, and suggest that he has the capacity to carry a team on the strength of his right arm.

Arm talent: Jones is the most gifted quarterback prospect in the 2013 class. He shows unbelievable arm strength and touch, and can make every throw in the book with tremendous zip and velocity. Whether it's the deep out from the opposite hash or the fly route down the boundary, Jones routinely delivers rope-like throws with tremendous pace. This allows him to fit the ball into tight windows between multiple defenders, completing the high-risk throws that elite quarterbacks must make with the game on the line. In addition, Jones shows good accuracy and ball placement when utilizing proper footwork and mechanics in the pocket. There are few physical deficiencies in his game; scouts love Jones' sheer talent and natural ability.

Mobility: Jones is a fluid athlete with average movement skills. Although he isn't an explosive runner like Robert Griffin III or Michael Vick, he shows enough quickness and agility to elude defenders in the pocket.

    Conclusion:
Jones is underrated, in my mind, due to his remarkable physical tools. He possesses all of the attributes that you look for at the position, and creative offensive coordinators will be intrigued by his ability to make all of the throws. While his decision-making and poise under pressure remain concerns based on his play throughout 2012, I believe he has made significant strides over the past year. Insightful evaluators will keep him in the mix as a possible franchise quarterback. Without a unanimous selection as the top quarterback prospect in the 2013 class, it wouldn't surprise me to see Jones enjoy a late rise up the charts following all-star games and pre-draft workouts.

He was productive, which is not the same as being top 4 QB in NCAA for three years in a row, including #1 in senior year. He went in the fourth round and is still in the NFL as a back-up getting paid. There are many productive QBs in NCAA, yet very few are top 4 for 3 years in a row in the entire NCAA with 200 QB rating junior and sr seasons.

That 2nd play in particular is why I have Mayfield QB2 over Rosen at the moment. Rosen is the best in the draft when kept clean, but Mayfield responds better to adversity in the pocket imo.

Also is there a single category he isn’t #1 in?? I feel like I see something like this every day
