Let me add, the guy from that draft I knew would be a bust was Christian Ponder. I'm a quasi FSU fan so I saw him A LOT; I pegged him as a Day 3 pick. He went something 12th overall? I think that was the moment I realized some of these GMs have no idea what they are doing.
I agree, the Giants have to take a QB. They would be stupid not to. Its possible that the new GM will cave to the pressure from ownership who kisses the Manning family's ass though and they would take a different position or trade down. So it is possible. It's just dumb. They hit the lottery. they had a franchise QB for 14 years and then in his twilight years they find themselves with a bad season picking #2 with a host of QB prospects to eventually take over. They would be dumb not to take one
I remember being blown away by that pick, too. Remember a few years ago when the Vikings missed their 1st round pick by not getting it in before the clock ran out? That's when I knew the draft was being run by morons, but I thought maybe it was just the Vikings....
If Locker is your big miss then you are already a better GM than the guys getting paid to do the job.
Lol, oh ok. When I saw Panthers on the jersey I was for a split second thinking you were referring to Alex McGough out of FIU.
Elway isn't gonna trade up to take a RB. He didn't even trade up or try to trade up as far as we know for a QB. Mac isn't gonna trade back and risk losing the last of the top 4 QBs. Just stop with the nonsense.
Again, just get a QB in the 2nd round, rather than one that they think is better in the 1st? That makes no sense to me.
apparently Mac tried to get to the top again https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...o-1-pick-before-blockbuster-trade-with-colts/
It is. There's an interesting paragraph in the article that I think relates to a certain poster here. Don't do it, Jay Bizniss. The word is out!
The difference between the Giants and the Jets situations is that Jets fans have been waiting DECADES for a FQB while the Giants have had Simms and then Eli in the past 20 years. If the Giants took Barkley instead of a QB, and Eli simply is out of gas, they could gamble with one of the "Tier 2" QBs this year, or shoot for one next year, and their fans would likely cut them slack. Not so with the Jets fans. If Macc took Barkley this year instead of trying to get that long lost FQB, Jets fans would revolt. I think it's very likely that the Giants do take Barkley at #2. If Eli still has gas left, they could make another SB run; if not, they have a great asset for a rookie QB to lean on.
The fact that MM called both the Browns AND the Giants to trade up to 1 or 2 says tons...THEY ARE NOT BUDGING 100 % positive Cleveland takes a QB I have posted a few times already that this is a RARE situation for the G men since Playoffs and Championships have come their way..with a bunch of pretty talented QBs they should pick one here..nothing great about D Webb sorry..the fans will scream get SB for Eli but Gettleman will do the smart thing..draft a guy and let him sit behind Eli I think the stories in the Post are BS (taking a RB or Nelson etc).. Will one of them please take J Allen???? That would be nice BTW kudos to anyone else besides Contrails and myself who liked Mahomes last year
People can be wrong too. I think that other factors are playing into whether or not Allen will be successful with the Jets. The latter point being the most critical. Allen is not going to be ready to play anytime soon. Furthermore, if he is thrust into the lineup too early, my supposition is that his morale will be easily destroyed by the media. Allen needs a team that has stability in the long term (albeit with a good organization or one that just made a recent transition to a new regime) and also can afford him the opportunity to sit a year or two and learn.
