I'm willing to speculate, sure. But I've been on this forum long enough to know that somebody out there has it all figured out, and before long, that person will be telling us how Bryce Petty is the future of the franchise and the Jets will be trading up to #1 to get Quenton Nelson before the Giants can snag him.
I don't mind the people like that, it's the one's you can't take an opposing view without name calling and personal attacks that ruin a forum. we are all just playing the guessing game, and sometimes GMs go against conventional wisdom
Every new regime usually does want to start with a new QB. But the Giants and others with a QB who can still play, with 2 SBs under their belt doesn't necessarily want to change. Pitt didn't move on from Ben when Cowher retired. If Belichick retired 5 years ago a switch wouldn't have been made from Brady. There are plenty of other examples. You also have to take into account that usually when a new regime takes over its because the team is going into a rebuild. The Giants probably think they can win with Eli and additions to the roster. They were a favorite to contend a year ago, a lot of their failure was due to a lot of injuries to the roster. Beckham and others return, a Barkley and help on the OL could translate to wins.
yeah nobody expected them to be 2-14. injuries killed them. their offense runs through ODB and him going down was a disaster. They also had no run game but that was a given going in. marshall went down and even shepard missed time. they were down to their number 4 and 5 WRs starting. The o-line was shakey and no RB. they are going to look to improve the run game. they signed solder obviously. they added stewart but he's not really a great RB, but much better then what they had last year. getting o-line help and a RB would be huge in addition to ODB coming back and masrhall. Their D isn't that bad either. great o-line with vernon, JPP, and snacks on it. they added ogletree to help the weak LBer group. secondary is interesting. they still have apple and jenkins but cut DRC and outside of collins their safeties arne't great. I'd expect them to add help on the secondary as well. They aren't in full rebuild and They seem to believe in eli for a few more years. QB isn't a need for them right now
Maybe I shouldn't have said "every regime" but how can you compare a young Ben Roethlisberger, or Tom Brady in his prime to Eli Manning where he is today? Eli's best days are behind him. For the Jets sake, I hope the Giants take Barkley, but I think the plan to take a potential FQB has been in the works for the Giants since Eli got benched. We will see...
Not going to quote and respond to individual posts in this thread, but I think that are completely ruling out the Jets taking Barkley at 3 are misguided. I am not saying anything for certain either way, but it is quite possible that the Jets feel that either the Browns or Giants are taking Barkley leaving Darnold or Rosen there at 3 which is why they put themselves in position to get one of the only 2 QBs in the draft worthy of a top 5 pick. If Darnold and Rosen go 1-2 then they will deal with the chips where they fall, which might be take Barkley (smart move) or trade back down if they get the right price. To take a QB that very well might have been there at 6 after giving up 3 second rounders would be a colossal waste of draft capital. I am not ruling out that they might take Baker or Allen at 3, but I do not think that is what their intent was in trading to 3.
Ben yeah, that was silly but Brady was the same age 5 years ago. Not in his prime years. I just think the Giants have a couple of productive years in Eli and there is a sense of loyalty that Mara and Tisch along with the fanbase has with Eli, look at the outrage when he was benched. Also no one has mentioned Davis Webb who supposedly they are high on. That could be a factor. I just think Eli with the WRs return and Barkley would be a threat to win the next few years. More if Webb is decent. They can address the QB in the next few years if Webb fails
It would not be a colossal waste imo. No team that is as desperate for a QB as the Jets are can go on "might." They have to take steps to make certain that they get one of the top QB prospects. I can say with all certainly that unless Mac has a massive brain fart, and/or is not qualified to be a GM in the NFL, he isn't going to take Barkley or seek to trade back down. He's gonna stay put at #3 and take the best QB prospect he can. Period. Taking Barkley would not be a smart move imo, not when the Jets desperately need a FQB, not when there are lots of other very good RB prospects in the draft,. and not when Mac needs to draft a QB or lose his job. It would be the dumbest possible move Mac could make. If he doesn't take a QB and takes Barkley instead, he should be fired and not even allowed to finish the draft. If he took Chubb instead of a RB, that at least would be understandable and make some sense as the team has and has had a HUGE need at edge rusher since John Abraham left. Still, even that move should get him fired.
The Jets are taking Josh Rosen at #3 - book it. He has all of the characteristics that the Jets love in a first round pick. He looks physically imposing, came from a big school with good talent who made him look better than he was, character issues, questionable field awareness, and a history of injuries that leave him one play away from retirement before he is even drafted (concussions).
Big mouth, bad judgement, poor work ethic - but the big issue is the concussions. He had at least two concussions last year alone. https://thebiglead.com/2017/05/04/n...osen-tons-of-issues-and-a-mess-off-the-field/
I just thought holding at 6 and taking Allen, Mayfield, or Jackson + 3 2nd rounders was a better choice.....Not in love with any of the top QB's but like them all for different reasons Just can't convince me that whoever is there at 3 is THAT much better than who we could have drafted at 6 Time will tell, but I'd be willing to bet that the QB's that go 1-2-3 aren't the 3 best of the group or that even all 3 will be successful Just don't see the point in moving up in a QB rich draft, doesn't mean I'm a QB hater
Ralph Vacchiano @RVacchianoSNY The great @PhilSimmsQB talking to the great @AdamSchein on @MadDogRadio today: "“If it was me, just off what I’ve seen and everything, yes, without question Josh Allen would be my number one pick if I was the Cleveland Browns.”
