Nobody knows what the future will bring but, they didn't know back in '83 either... The class of 18: Allen, Darnold, Mayfield, Rosen, Rudolf, QB X (Jackson / Falk)? The class of 83: Marino, Elway, Kelly, Blackledge, Obrien, Eason. Not saying the class of 18 will accomplish what the class of 83 did, but the potential is there and the Jets had to take their shot. If 3 HOF's come from the class of '18, I'd like the Jets to have one of them on the Roster.
I used to wonder, but Maccagnan has completely won me over this off-season so far, and I'm the first person to critique this team. Lol
Whilst I agree it’s odd to have paid both Teddy and McCown and then move up to get your guy at three, there’s a couple of points that overall still make me happy with where we’re at Firstly, I’m 41 and been a fan 30 years. When was the last time the Jets had anything approaching a franchise QB? Now there’s no guarantees but there are three potential young franchise QBs in this draft and the Jets will be taking one. That’s the bottom line. Two - you can’t let past errors in development stop you taking the QB. By that logic we’d never pick one. The front office know they screwed up with Hackenburg and they have acknowledged that by a never playing the guy and b making this pick. Jets are going to have depth at quarterback this year. Let’s say that again....the New York Jets will have depth at the most important position in football. When was the last time we could say that.
And came 1 game shy of the SB..no doubt in my mind if we had those two in Ryan's first two years we probably would have won two SBs.
The only idea or direction the Jets have is taking a long walk off of a short plank while they're on a slow boat to China! I can't even burn my tickets or use them for bird cage liner anymore because they stopped printing them! Signed, -Mrs. championjets69
The reason why the cubs won is because they finally got people in the front office that know what they are doing. The jets still haven't gotten over that hump yet and most likely never will.
It's funny but to me (and others) this is the reason NOT to have to pay a shitload and move up a couple spots There's a bunch of QB's in the draft that all have the potential to be very good, see how the board falls without giving away three damn 2nd round picks
Kelly went 11th. Marino fell to 27th. We took O'brien @ 24th. That being said, on the flip side, the QB position is certainly valued higher now than it was then, hence the reason Kirk Cousins gets a fully guaranteed deal worth all that money. It is what it is at this point. I said my feelings about it. End of the day, after stepping back and looking at it, I see it like this. Regardless of who we got at 6 and with our two 2nds or at 3, Macc absolutely has to hit on this pick this year or he's gotta go and we should probably part ways with a lot of guys anyway. I think this trade expedites the evaluation process. I just take issue when people act like you're stupid if you are skeptical about the trade. Any move that is high risk high reward deserves to be challenged. If I said last week, "to be honest, I'm not really sold on any of these QBs. We better hope we get Cousins", there would have been plenty of people who agreed. So how is someone foolish for not wanting to trade up to 3 for a guy they were iffy on at 6? Just sayin.
Cousins was a 4th rounder,Brady was a 6th i belive,Brees was a second or 3rd,Wilson was a 3rd ,Derek Carr Round 2,Tyrod Taylor round 6,Kurt Warner was undrafted to,Dak Prescott round 4,Lets not forget Nick Foles Superbowl Champion MVP round 3.Andy dalton was a second round pick as well,Jimmy Garoppolo round 2,Case Keenum undrafted. Good thing we wasted 3 second round picks that could have been a qb or impact player.I hope this is Macs last year as GM .Can we get someone in here who does more then just gamble?
Heres a short list of the QBs taken in round 1 the last 10 years.Very underwelming list only one has won a Superbowl cant count Wentz he was injured.Def left out some guys this is all i could think of Flacco Bridgewater RG3 Luck Bradford 1st overall Tannehill Stafford Sanchez-Known for the Buttfumble and hotdog eating gifs Matt Ryan Jareed Goff Carson Wentz Mariota Winston Cam Newton Tribusky EJ Emanuel Paxton Lynch Johnny Manziel Tim Tebow Blake Bortles Blaine Gabbert
Without checking I can tell you forgot a few, such as Mahomes and Watson. Still, how many on that list are really good franchise quarterback types? At least 9 by my count, which is half your list plus Deshaun Watson. If you were down with signing Kirk Chokesins, then you gotta be palatable to having the Jets draft a qb as good or better than the following quarterbacks from that list: Carson Wentz, Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Mathew Stafford, Marcus Mariota, Jareed Goff, and Jameis Winston...That is not even counting Patrick Mahomes and Mitch Trubisky who might be franchise qb's. Yeah, I'm excited about our chances of getting a franchise qb.
all we have failed to do is getting lucky in the QB stakes - if any of the QBs we have drafted or signed over the last few decades had panned out then we wouldn't be having this conversation - the Jets are more unlucky than anything
I don’t disagree; if this was THE PLAN. Plan A) give Kirk whatever he wants: didn’t happen This leads me to believe that the Jets really NEVER had plan B.mthey grew some money at Josh MCCOWN to come back and then threw money at Teddy two gloves. Less than a week later they trade a bunch of futrenstatters for the chance to draft a QB a 3. Like I said, who of the three QB’s is the odd man out on the active roster? Do the Jets now carry 3 QB’s every week? Keep in mind this will also leave the team short at another position That’s why I stand by my statement that this was a panicky move
