The Jets traded 4 draft picks for 1 draft pick. Let's be clear on that.

I keep seeing people say that the Jets did not give up a first round pick to move up. That is not true at all.

The Jets gave up a first round pick and 3 seconds. Just because they got a first round pick in return doesn't negate the fact that they traded their 6th overall.

Stop using this flawed logic to justify your argument.

If you had $10 and I had $10 and I traded my $10 for your $10, that does not mean I lost my $10.

The swap of 1st round picks does not mean we lost our #6. We got #3 in exchange for #6.

They DID NOT give up a 1st round pick , they swapped 1st round picks... big difference .

Why did you make this thread? You know what people mean when they say that and you also could easily just comment in another thread.

If you want to say we didn't lose our #6, then we didn't gain our #3 either. The two ways to look at it are we gave up four picks for one, or we gave up three picks to move up from #6 to #3.

It means that you gave up a 10 to get a 10.

That is reality and there's no way you can provide a legitimate argument otherwise.

This argument is a semantic crutch for people who want to justify a trade in the first round and it's just wrong.

I started this thread because I saw in multiple threads the same dumbass argument and it wasn't worth making this argument in 3 different threads when I could make it in one.

byz. I agree. We gave too much. All we can pray is that the QB we will pick will make us forget what we gave up. The thing is, those picks don’t really mean much without a QB you know.

We traded 3 2nds to swap 1sts, seems pretty simple to me.

All to move up 3 spots, 3 spots , it's not like we had the 20th pick

3 spots is the difference between a franchise QB and a huge project QB

    And you know this how?

We have no clue how the board will fall and we have no idea which of these QBs will be franchise guys, busts, or anywhere in between

It's even possible the guy we end up taking at 3 could have been there at 6

if we get a franchise QB it wouldn't matter if we gave up 10 picks - if we don't then we will be SOJ regardless

    The Redskins gave up 3 #1’s and a #2 to move from 6 to 2 for RG3.

We got a very good value by doing it early.

The Redskins are actually one of the few franchises run worse than us

Maybe if they had all of those picks to go along with mid round Cousins they would have made the playoffs or even more?

I think you know what I’m saying. The top 3 QBs will be there. You are guaranteed one. The 4th on the list is viewed as a project while the other 3 have been impressive the whole way through.

But I still have my $10 and did not lose it. So its not 4 early picks. Its swapping picks and the consideration provided for moving up 3 spots is the three 2nd rounders.
