I think Mac is covering all the bases but just betting on himself as a talent evaluator and rolling the dice. Meaning, McCown is the emergency parachute to keep the team progressing and not allow anything to stall if he's called upon. But Ultimately he is betting it all on Teddy as Plan A and Hack as Plan B. Whoever wins out gets the deal. My belief is that Mac sees this draft class like many people do that the top QBs are a weak class. And instead of going with Uncle Josh and a guy he doesn't believe in...he went and got Teddy. I also think that he has the true belief that the light bulb could/will go off in Hack and he could be "the guy". Personally I love that plan, I hope that's the actual case. I'm quite bias though since I was a huge Teddy fan throughout college and wanted us to draft him desperately bad. And I think it's ridiculous to be completely out on Hack without even having ever let him take a snap in a single game. With all that said, I think all of this and even the drafting of a rookie QB will be a moot point if Teddy's leg is a non-issue.
McCown is the steady veteran who can step in and do a decent job if needed Teddy is a wildcard for us....could be anywhere from cut before the season to a good starter and our QB of the future Hack who knows...doesn't look good for him but I would still give him one last shot in the offseason to prove himself Still might and probably will draft a QB so we'll see how it goes
The future position at QB moving forward. It'll be a season long Jimmy G situation. He will perform, Mac holds back cap, end of season Teddy gets paid.
Mac is going to draft a QB. It's that simple. If he doesn't he's a dead man walking and I really don't think he wants to go down that road.
Draft a QB. Bridgewater isn't enough, we need all the opportunities we can get. Look at the Eagles. They gave Bradford and Daniel big contracts and traded up for Wentz. Then they brought back Foles. Bradford and Daniel didn't work out (though they got rid of Bradford), but Wentz and Foles won them the SB.
I want to laugh, but that crap makes our current qb situation look like the banjo player in Deliverance.
Mac is slowly working himself out of the sh*thouse and into the penthouse..can he get us Baker? He redeems himself forever if he does it!!..
I don't think so. One of the reasons I see him as a great fit is I think he has the balls to not play afraid in NY, like so many others we've seen before him. He won't be like the guys on the roster last year.
You're saying you think Mac believes that TB or Hack will be starting in 2019? Disagree. I don't think he believes the chances of this are greater than 30%. If he doesn't select a QB at 6 this year, he'll take a QB in the top 10 next year, behind a revamped 0-line, and start him right away. Those two options combined are at least 70%. Of course that's assuming he still has a job.
Agreed.. The one thing that is indispensable in the Tri-State is having the guts to play here in spite of the media and the fans. Petty looked petrified when he was on the field. Hack never even made it to the field. If Mayfield comes in showing huge talent, they're gonna have a hard time justifying McCown all year. It was far easier last year with 2 scrubs on the bench.
God I hope you're wrong (no offense). This franchise has been searching for a QB for decades. We aren't suddenly going to have too many. You take a QB 1st round. This whole "this isn't a good draft class" is non sense that you hear this time of year. No one wanted Trubisky or Watson this time last year we'd gladly take any of the first round QBs last year right now. All these rookies have potential and I'm done watching this team pass them up for over hyped defensive players.
I see the same thing. He's got an inner confidence and belief like nobody else. Nobody's fucking with him. But he's got the goods too. He's got the instinctive intelligence that a lot of these dudes never get. Yet you know he's teachable and understands what's important.
My guess is Macc knows this is his make or break year for getting a QB. And Baker may be his ticket. Let's hope we can plug as many holes as possible through FA.
Well, that's not what I would prefer to see. I'd much rather see this QB thing get straightened out. I'd also love a draft emphasis on OL. To me, defense is almost a lost cause. The Jets defense already talented, maybe not talented enough, but just the same, talented. Bowles got that talented enough to a measly ranking of 25th in total defense. I don't think Bowles knows how to coach defense.
If this is his plan, then he needs to be fired now. Also Baker is gonna be a stud and Rosen I think is a safe pick to be a quality starter. Not sure on the other few too guys.
