You know as I made this thread, I figured Mac selecting a QB at 6 was an automatic? However, a few of these posts have me thinking differently. Maybe Mac signed two QB's so he didn't need to select a QB in the draft? Maybe he's actually going to give Hack another year on the roster. When we all know he should have been cut long ago. This is stupid move for Mac to make IMO. McCown and Bridgewater do NOT solve our QB issues. All that does is make the need for Mac to draft a QB that much stronger. If Mac doesn't find a FQB, he gets fired. It's that simple. If he hangs on to Hack and he never plays, he's going to get fired. If McCown starts all season? Mac gets fired. If Bridgewater starts and ruptures his ACL again, Mac gets fired. Mac MUST get a QB.
I have been a huge advocate for cousins however, I have also been saying ever since there were talks of the fully guaranteed contracts and 30 million per year that the most ideal situation for the organization would be: Bridgewater in free agency and Barkley @ #6. Phase 1 complete...
This. We have two capable QBs who are made of glass signed to 1-year deals. If Mac thinks that fixes our QB situation, then the GM situation is far more broken than the QB situation.
Go back and look at the 1st round of last years draft and tell me how many "no way" picks were and were not made. I'll wait.. There's no such thing in the NFL. Edit: I would however say I felt a lot better about this prospect a month ago.
Folks calm down. Why is everyone getting worked up as if we aren't drafting a QB in the 1st rd? Do they have to move up to secure the player they want? Probably. (Especially if Buffalo plans on doing just that) With the Browns signing Carlos Hyde maybe they can be talked into moving down to #6. So many things will happen between now and the draft let's just all take a minute and relax. Less gloom and doom and more positive vibes.
I think it's safe to say that both Hack and Petty are goners now. When we draft a QB that should put an end to the ugly chapter that is the Petty/Hack experiment.
Petty yes but Hackenberg ain't going anywhere. He's Macc wet dream. Macc is equally as stubborn as Bowles that is 70% of the Jets problem right there. That is why I think they won't be going QB in the 1st round.
What have they done in the past two days that makes anyone think they will draft a QB? One year contracts? Why are you discounting it as a possibility? If they had shored up the offensive side of the ball with Allen Robinson, top shelf olinemen and re-signed Mcown and cut Petty then I would think the missing piece was a young QB being drafted with the 6th pick. I'm not saying I want them to forgo drafting a QB and keep trying to develop Hack but how they have addressed the QB situation by re-signing Mcown and adding a veteran in Teddy as the backup all they need to do is cut Petty and keep Hack as the third stringer. Haven't we heard about Hacks supposed improvement and seen videos on twitter about it? Just because it's a one year contract does not mean anything, if they like how Teddy looks they can always re-sign him to a longer term deal. The top FA signing so far has been a CB on defense, a wash at the ILB position replacing Demario. A below average center and a decent RB that has questionable character issues. I also understand the possibility of drafting a QB with 6th pick and carrying 4 QBs as they did before and letting Mcown and Teddy go after one year and have young FQB take over. This is the one I'm skeptical about.
Relax. He'd say that anyway if he had zero plans for drafting a QB. But he was willing to mortgage his life with Cousins, he's signing Tedy off the scrap heep. He's still trying to get a QB. And, btw, he's not ascared of doing that. Some of these theories here are outlandish
The thing is though, if Teddy flourishes when given the reigns (for whatever reason) they would pay dearly to re-sign him. This baffles me to see how this unfolds, because I think Teddy will impress at camp and win over the CS for the starting position. Just that gut feeling....
Hit the nail on the head. I'd also add that knowing Bridgewater is on the roster makes other GMs less likely to attempt strait up highway robbery in the first place.
UPDATE: Since I first posted this Joe Thomas was still their starting All-Pro LT, he has since retired. My prediction is that the Browns select Darnold #1 then trade back with their #4 to acquire OL depth.
