Really? Fitz didn't hurt the team? How about looking at benefit instead of the cost. The term is value. What did Jets gain by signing Fitz to his second contract? What will Jets gain by signing McCown for 10 mil? I am not against signing McCown. I am against signing him to such a deal. Fitz deal was terrible and this one isn't any different.
I've still yet to see a way the Fitz contract hurt the team. And that was back when we had almost NO cap space. Simply put: whining over a QB taking 1/9th of your cap space is a little, no pun intended, petty.
That's not what I'm saying at all. Bringing Fitz back after bidding against himself wasn't Macc's finest hour. That Fitz choked away several games included the Buffalo game that was the Jets' best chance at a playoff since Ryan really hurt this team. We haven't sniffed a playoffs spot since. We have no hope now but to pray that McCown 2.0 isn't Fitz 2.0. Fitz's 2nd contract hurt because Fitz 2.0 came with it. I am not separating the financial costs from the results on the field.
Name the last QB, who wasn't all that good to begin with, to come back from 2 years off and be serviceable.
Teddy was average that was on the verge of a breakout year. How many QBs got injured the way Teddy got hurt? There isn't many. It was a freak non-contact injury in practice. Not many players are under that scenario.
Try another CB at 6... Macc is too scared to fuck up another QB pick so resigning McCown takes him off the hook. Now he can draft BPA-D and go 2nd tier on Qb's which gives him a out just in case his QB pick is a POS again. Fear is quite the motivator.
