To begin with, I don't think the veteran players he mentioned would be cheaper than younger players. They're still playing at a pretty high level, FA always drives the price of contracts up, especially if more than one team wants to sign that player, and I think that would be the case with those players.

IMO signing older FAs to a rebuilding team is a last resort. IMO one first tries to sign younger, cheaper players in FA who are still developing and have potential, or players who are on the cusp of being solid starters or maybe even stars. It would make sense to pay a lot to sign a young FA who could play for the team for years as long as his contract wouldn't mess up the team salary scale. A good example of that is A.J Bouye last year. He would have fixed our CB issues long term, but his contract may have screwed up the team salary scale. It would have been worth strongly considering and maybe even still doing it since the Jets had cap space.

If one fails to sign a young FA to address a position, then if one likes a player or players at that position in the draft, one seeks to draft one of those players at a spot where value and need match, trading up or down if need be to get said player. If that fails, then there are always camp cuts, who are probably the cheapest signings of all. The Jets aren't going to the playoffs in 2018 regardless of who is playing QB for them. Their focus should be on finding players who can help them long term either as starters, depth or STers. They should play those young players to expedite their development. Let them learn from their mistakes on the field. We saw last year, and have seen countless times over the years how young players bring an energy, excitement and passion to a team and can actually help teams play better than older vets who are mercenaries and just collecting another paycheck.

Signing an older vet who won't be on the team in 2019 or 2020 does nothing for the team that will help them achieve their goal of sustainable success. It may give the Jets another win or two, but that can actually work against them in the draft as we have countless times, including this year! We shouldn't be worrying at all about drafting a QB in the upcoming draft. We should have been in perfect position to get the 1st or 2nd QB taken, but no, we had to try to win another game or two because 5-11 is SO much better than 4-12 or 3-13.

I would not be a fan of both McCown and Bridgewater. I can't really see Mac signing both. Bridgewater would be signed as the starter. He was medically cleared week 1 and began to fully practice mid October so I think his knee is fully healed by now. I'm sure any team who signs him will do a thorough physical, MRI etc on the knee. I'm guessing of course as I have no personal knowledge regarding his medical records. I did see him play the few plays vs the Bengals and he looked fine, was mobile, but that was only a handful of snaps. How he holds up for a full game or 16 is unknown.
The funny thing is everyone is arguing over Cousin's, and Mac overpaying him and how Mac's giving him 5-6 years fully guaranteed . How Bridgewater should be or shouldn't be plan B when honestly, none of us know if Mac plans to even pursue Cousins, and if the Vikings don't get a green light during the leagal tampering period from Cousin's agent , they could still Toll Bridgewater's contract and prevent him from hitting free agency.

Mike Evans got 16.5M per from TB. Sets the price for Robinson.

Sort of. Robinson is coming off of a major injury so should be less than this. Evans is now the 2nd highest paid WR behind Antonio Brown (17M per year)

No way A Rob gets anywhere near that. A Rob can probably get somewhere around 13. I wouldn't touch that guy for anything more than that.

I would take Bridgewater in a heartbeat if Cousins goes elsewhere.

I like that idea a lot, just not sure where he fits in. Would love to have 3 studs floating around back there.

He could replace Skrine in the slot.

Let him lock down in the slot. Can move Adams more into the box. It gives you so much flexibility and honey badger is a play maker. If he gets cut there is a good chance he does sign with us if we are interested.

    1) married to Bowles step daughter
    2) coached under Bowles in Arizona
    3) him and Adams are boys

I feel torn on Bridgewater. I think if the Jets get their QB at the top of the draft, then I'd rather Mccown come back with the intention of mentoring the new QB.

Bridgewater to me is a guy you sign if your other option is another unsure non long term solution. Maybe if the Jets took a QB in the second round; someone with much lower expectations coming in.

I don't see a scenario where Bridgewater is part of an optimal solution for the Jets current situation.

Signing a -29-30 year old QB , Cousins if you are alluding to, is not considered old and not like a signing a RB or DL man That would allow the Jets to base their rebuild around a QB that will be with them for at least 5 years and possibly more - look at Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers. All past 33 years but still going strong.

Wow tense forum. Brady was a 6 round pic. Definitely true he was not the QB the team was building around...ever see his combine 40?.... He's a rail.
With that said IMO with how the league is setup protecting the QBs they have a much longer career than most positions bordering on punters/kickers. Bradys health is an anomaly though and will show his age soon...he was in fact last year. But look at Brees, Rothlesberger, mccowan, Rivers etc and many other QBs who are many years older than Cousins. Does that mean I'm all in on cousins ....hell no. Just a fact.

The Bears put a tag on Kyle Fuller that doesn't require any draft pick compensation... I think he'd be a great addition that wouldn't garner the $ of a Butler or Johnson.

I know he's coming off a torn ACL, I know he's 32 still he strikes me as the type of player to work his @ss off to get back not only for the money but to prove he can still play.

I don't think he'll be a repeat of the Revis signing.

He'd bring leadership to the Jets secondary/defense and when healthy he's a legit STAR. A future HOFer who can still play like one.

With all this cap space why not? Haven't made the playoffs since 2010 what have they got to lose? Nothing!

I bet Richard Sherman prefers to sign with a team that has a shot at making the Super Bowl next season.

Doesn't fit the mold of the team being built here. Won't happen.
