I disagree strongly. With the dollar figures Cousins is going to command on the market, he's absolutely a gamble. His talent is known but any time you spend $25 million annually on 1 player, i dont care who they are, that's a gamble. A rookie is a cheap

I think they won't be doing their jobs if they don't inquire about Cousins and try to sign him. But if it becomes apparent that he's not going to be a NYJ unless they offer outrageous money or even if its clear we are only signing him if we win the bidding war, then I'm fine with bowing out and trying our hands in the draft.

I'm not a cousin of Cousins :D or anything but he strikes me as the kind of guy that is focused on his finances and will only sign with the organization offering the most

I mean, every player is a gamble, on cousins you are only gambling cash against injury same as any other player. A rookie you are gambling not just on injury but ability. The cost of a good qb is $25mil whether it’s cousins now or god willing a draft pick down the road, eventually you’re going to have to spend that money

It's a big gamble. If we spend $25 million on Cousins we might not have enough money to blow on a 30 year-old cornerback or lazy-ass defensive end.

If we can't get Cousins I'd sign the cheaper of Keenum or Foles and grab Darnold if he falls past the first two picks.

I'm one of the ones hoping we get Cousins. He looks like the real deal to me, up there with Ryan and Rivers.

In the games I watched this season, he was very accurate. Fitting balls into windows, leading receivers, and placing deep balls near perfectly. He even made plays with his legs.

Two of the games I watched him play were losses (I probably watched others, but there are two I remember). In one of the losses, he threw a really nice ball into the end zone to win the game, and his receiver decided to Stephen Hill it. In the other loss, they had a 3rd and 1 to make to win the game, and they took it out of his hands and were stuffed on a run up the middle. I was really expecting a bootleg of some sort there, given how many plays Cousins had made with his legs.

I think he's worth going for, even at a high cap cost. Given our current capital, I'd hope we could front load it enough that, while averaging 25-30 mil, it would be much less after the first couple of years.

He gives us a QB we can build around, without fear of wasting the primes of the rest of the talent we obtain. He's no Brady or Rodgers, but he's probably on par with what we might hope for from the draft this year, in my opinion.

If we can't get him, I'd be looking toward the draft. Barring Brees, there is no other free agent there that isn't a gamble as being able to be a FQB. I don't know enough about the QBs available, but I'll root for whichever they take in this scenario. On name basis alone, Luke Falk. We used to have the Folk Hero, why not a Falk Hero? :D

The Browns trade down because we give them a generous offer and Rosen has told them f@ck you to Cleaveland ..and NOW they have love for J Allen

If they want Darnold well then that's a problem..the number 3 slot or 4 is are only shot to get one of the big 3 QBs and I would move hell and high water to get it done...so it's an aggressive move to secure Baker Mayfield if the Giants grab Darnold or Rosen ....but to me well worth it ..Baker has that"it" factor and a winner imo

it's not a gamble when you know what you are getting. a gamble is every draft pick ever. A gamble is trading for garapollo (which worked out well for SF) it's not a gamble trading for a 29 year old QB who's last 3 season were all pro bowl worthy. It's expensive, but not a gamble. and right now we have so much cap room, it doens't really matter.

All you guys are living in la la land if you think we get Cousins and he gets US..."doing his HW on each team??"..fugataboutit for Jets...

Unless you think he can play4 positions e.g. QB OL WR and RB we have nothing really to offer except $ and a promise to fix everything fast..

Refer to my other posts ...KC wants to win NOW

My goodness...20 pages talking about this dude and in all prob won't show up here...lmao

Finances and WIN a SB NOW...the goal of any decent QB..he and his Agent know he's NOT getting any younger...(OTHOH a drafted rookie has many years ahead of him)

If I was him there are just TOO many variables with the Jets and they essential resemble the Skins in terms of ownership and management...let's get real here ...except for Jay Gruden who is a little better than Toilet Bowles what's the BIG difference to come here if 3 teams offer the same $$????

A lot of you guys think Cousins has no mind of his own and somehow TGG perceptions are his reality...

    Too funny

realistically speaking there is probably less then a 5% chance cousins come's here but it sure is nice to dream. not only that but it fills a hole without the draft or the gamble of drafting a bust or rookie pains. as far as the other positions go

WR - we still have 3 picks and could probably grab a guy like st brown early in the 2nd. not to mention we could sign a guy like robinson, watkins, landry etc. and we have robbie, enunwa coming back, kearse, and maybe even get somehting from stuart or hansen

RB - we have powell and maguire so not a huge need. deep RB draft as well. could use one of those 2nds on a RB if we really wanted. maybe even grab barkley if he falls to 6

OL - again we got picks. maybe trade back a few spots and grab the top lineman still and grab another in the 2nd.

we have 3 picks in the 1st 2 rounds. we could easily take 1 of each here as well as fill WR in free agency pretty easily. lots of good options out there.

Have posted this before, but I'd like to see the Jets draft Riley Ferguson in the 2nd round. QB out of Memphis. Great arm, accurate, pocket presence, a proven winner. Only drawback is that sometimes he gets a little sloppy with his footwork which leads to some sloppy throws - something can can be fixed. He is projected to go in the 2nd - 4th rounds depending on who you talk to. I've watched all of the top rated quarterbacks in this draft and I wouldn't take any of them with the #6 pick. If the Jets were smart they'd draft Ferguson, start him from day 1, and let him learn during the first rocky season with the other young Jets.

The cba says you can’t just build through the draft, have to spend somewhere. And since we don’t seem to be able to draft players worth pushing the cap limits for........

No QB taken past high in the 1st round - if then - will become the starter under Bowles. Unless Ferguson is a finished product, which you admit he's not, he won't get any coaching up with the Jets. It's the LaBrea Tar Pits of young QBs.

Our best hope for trading up is the Browns signing Cousins, then trade down with the Jets, who then draft Josh Rosen.

I don't see the Browns doing that. If they sign Cousins they would probably want to grab Barkley and he won't be there at their #4 pick let alone our #6 pick. If they did sign Cousins and kept their picks, they could Barkley, and then another great player at #4.

I disagree with you. The Browns with Cousins signed as their starter would be more likely to trade down in a draft with Rosen and Darnold expected to go 1 and 2. A lot if teams need a quarterback, and the Browns could load up on draft picks even more. The opportunity cost of sacrificing all the extra picks to stay at 1 to take a running back would be to great to pass up a trade down.
