They haven't and your point being? Even more reason to get rid of Maccagnan and Bowles. What exactly gives them cover to return? Bowles can't coach and Macc can't draft/pick free agents. I mean isn't that their respective jobs?

Mac came up as a scout and claims that the life blood of his team is the draft. His philosophy for the draft is to use his scouting acumen to select the best players available.

That all sounds good. However, in three drafts, he has yet to select the best player available. In the vast majority of slots, he hasn’t taken one of the five best players available

That’s on top of terrible free agent signings

I would give Maccagnan a B/B- for his drafts. He's been able to find some depth players at the bottom of the drafts. Devin Smith has been hurt 3 seasons in a row - that's not on Mac. The only high pick I don't like thus far is obviously Hack. He doesn't seem to have the goods. Other than that, Jenkins was nice in the 3rd round. Shell was a steal in the 5th. Mcguire looks like a pretty good pick up in the 6th. Mauldin wasn't bad in the 3rd. Maye is obviously a part of the long term plan. Has he picked any pro bowlers in the 4th/5th round? No. But most GMs don't given a 3 year window. Both him and Bowles deserve a couple more years to prove that the plan is working, but I would expect a large FA spend to upgrade a number of positions, including the QB spot, and hopefully we can turn this around next year and have a winning season if nothing else.

All of the arguments surrounding Mac and his ability to lead the Jets forward don't really amount to much at the end of the day. It's the ownership that is the problem, and until Woody sells the team to an owner who knows what the heck he's doing, we'll never have the right people in place to take the Jets to a place of sustained success. With his absentee ownership, we're looking at probably another 5-6 years before we're even within earshot of the playoffs again.

The type of GM it would take to pull the Jets out of the toilet is exactly the kind of GM that he won't hire, the kind that would command total control of football operations. We're never going to get that, because Woody won't go there as well as the fact that no self-respecting football mind would come to this dumpster fire of an organization.

Maybe. I really don't know. If I trusted Jets brass I would say let Mac go but I have zero confidence in Woody and Chris Johnson.

Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams weren't the BPA?

I do agree with the 2nd round and beyond though.

Why is there some written law that does not allow us to fire MCC? Go to the top of this thread & some one posted MCC 3 drafts & pick out the DCs that U think will lead us to the promised land

I wholeheartedly agree and I'll take this one further........

BOTH the GM and HC's job description should say (if they don't already?) The OBJECTIVE of this job is to consistently make the team better and better until you win the SB. Failure to meet those expectations is grounds for termination.

IMO, that's not only FAIR but also HONEST? At least any potential GM candidate knows what the owners expectations are going into it? This isn't about going 5-11 for as many years as you possibly can? This isn't about going 10-6 after spending 50 million in FA and still missing the playoffs. This isn't even about making the playoffs. This is about winning the SB and nothing else.

Well, 3 years into this regime we have a GM that has ONE good draft to his name IMO. A HC that has demonstrated time and again the inability to make in game strategic adjustments. The Jets lost a LOT of games in the 2nd half this season.

Id consider Maye and Adams (more in the locker room but I think he will be great on the field eventually) to be impact players. Certainly better than Gilchrist and Pryor.

This type of thread just typifies that no one, including myself can so much as guess what the make up of this team will look like 2 years down the road. So wtf is the point?

Dylan Donahue is a perfect example - he looked like the most impressive 2017 draft pick til he got hurt. Notice how nobody here remembers this?

Look, instead harping and complaining about what as happened with all these picks , that some are still, btw, a work in progress, focus on what the GM should do for 2018. From what I can see based on the performance of 2017 this team is about 3-4 real good players away from being a very good team. A FQB, a #1 WR, a PASS RUSHER and a OL guard or tackle. That's my opinion. They can address all these issues easily in the off season with the cap space and drafting wisely.

There you go, instant winner for 2018.

Another thing, you would think that the Jets were practically blown out of every game in 2017 from just by reading all this nonsense about how bad Mac has drafted. A few breaks here and there, ( bad calls by refs some injuries to key players, some stupid mistakes by McCown) this team , for all it's lack of experience, and short on some areas for talent, could have easily won 7-8 games, no doubt. And many experts who have covered the Jets SAY THE SAME THING!

WTF, this is just too funny.

I think a lot of Macc's praise stems from the fact that he's better than Idzik in all facets but I do think that Maccagnan has whiffed on a number of picks and as a result, our rebuild has in part been delayed because of that. His first draft really netted us L. Williams and no one else. His second draft netted us Darron Lee and Jenkins. Hack is probably not the answer, Burris is too inconsistent, Shell seems like he can be the answer but I need to see more, Lac Edwards is inconsistent and is usually good for one shanked punt a game and Charon Peake has minimal impact on the team. His third draft is where things become more interesting. I think he found our safety tandem for a very long time, ArDarius Stewart showed flashes early but has since faded (due in part, in my opinion at least, because the coaching staff and preferring the vet Kerley over the rookie). Hansen has been featured more, still an unknown. Leggett injured all year. Elijah McGuire has a lot of burst to him and I think he can be good for us. Clark and Jones uknown.

I think Maccagnan is not a top tier GM, but I do like that he showed some improvement in drafting. If he comes back he's going to have to show that he can draft a QB, surround the QB with o-line help, and also spend wisely in free agency.

Thus far his free agency record is abysmal. It's a huge offseason for the team, one that can catapult us into contending soon or going further into mediocrity and stagnation. If he doesn't have an amazing offseason, I would imagine he won't get as 5th year.

Williams no doubt but not Adams in my opinion. I never bought the narrative that he was one of the a top 3 prospects in the entire draft. All the pro-Adams pundits would always try to sell Adams with the caveat that it wasn't so much about his measurables and ability but his leadership. Up until this year there was no amount a leadership that could ever elevate an above average in-the-box SS into a top 6 pick. I don't know what changed. I tend to the follow following rule when it comes to BPA: If I can't see the prospect in question being viewed relatively in the same light if he was playing for another school, then he can't be BPA.

I don’t think so ... Gurley was clearly the bpa in 2015 and Adams isn’t even the best rookie safety on the jets

Those who think Adams isn't what he is cut out to be better watch and learn. He hasn't nearly tapped his potential yet. He'll be in the Pro Bowl next year, bet on it.

That's where positional value comes into play. Even if you believe Gurley is the better player, Leo plays at a much more premium position. The talent gap between them would need to be chasmic to justify taking Gurley over Big Cat, but an argument could probably be made. Adams over the rest of the field is hard to defend however because he does not play a premium position. Safety has the 3rd lowest franchise tag designation; that tells you all you need to know about it's value. It's edged just slight by the TE position for second to last place above kickers/punters. With the growing importance of TEs, they should surpass safeties in the next couple of years. Even among safeties, in-the-box safeties are the bottom of the value barrel.

What about Eric Berry from the Chiefs? I think in due time Adams will be on a similar level.

I think the Jets addressed the correct position. Malik Hooker probably a better ball hawk that can generate turnovers, but I am happy with Adams. The Titans I am sure are kicking themselves for taking Davis...

Eric Berry, the prospect, was a FS who was an explosive athlete (4.47 40, 43" vert, 10'10" broad) able to play EVERY position in the secondary. Just for good measure, he was also a great leader. Jamaal Adams, the prospect, was not just a SS, but an in-the-box SS with average athleticism for the position (4.56 40, 31.5" vert, 10'0" broad) who too is a great leader. If Adams will be on similar level as Eric Berry, he has some catching up to do. Eric Berry had a great rookie year; led his team in INTs.
