I'll start. Not tanking may have been good in the short term, but it was not helpful long term. Josh McCown is better than Petty and Hackenberg. That's not really news is it. We found out that we have receivers that can catch, an OC that actually calls a modern gameplan and a serviceable defense that doesn't get after the Qb. We won 5 games but in the big picture, I'd rather have 5 losses and a shot at one of the big 3. McCown's career year did nothing for the team except keep the Jets in the dark about the Qb talent (or lack thereof) on the roster presently. Now moving away from the Qb debacle, what else did we learn? Forte is finished. Our Oline still needs a massive influx or talent. Our CB's still are inconsistent in coverage and can be burned by most functional Qb/Wr combos around the league. We still have no pass rush and our LB's are marginally NFL caliber. Finally, lets talk coaching. The team played hard for Bowles, but that's really not enough is it. Ownership set the bar so low that ANYONE could have met the criteria of the Jets being simply "competitive". Since the bar was set so low, what was the point of not playing either of our kid Qb's earlier in the year? Were they fooled again with the "competitive rebuild" mirage Macc and the CS sold ownership last year? Did Bowles improve as a HC? not really. Morton's system salvaged what should have been a awful season. Unfortunately, an awful season was exactly what the Jets needed. We really needed a top-5 pick this year. We really needed a shot at a FQB even if Macc's QB vision is blurry at best. The one year we need Josh McCown to be Josh McCown, he turns into Alex Smith and we win 5 meaningless games. We literally played ourselves out of the FQB sweepstakes and now have to ponder mortgaging the future for one. Since we don't develop Qb's anyway, that might not be a bad idea... Just another year in JetLand. The arrow once again points sideways.
nothing went wrong ... CS found out what they had in Hack and Petty. Time to find the QB and continue to fix the line.
If they have their sights set on one of the following: Rosen, Allen, Darnold, Mayfield, Falk, Jackson...they will have an opportunity to select one of those QB's when their pick comes. If we assume for the moment that Darnold and Rosen will be off the board, for instance, then Josh Allen will be there if they're picking anywhere from 8-10.
Not tanking may have been good in the short term, but it was not helpful long term. Plus10 million Cman...and spoken like a real Jet fan !!...YOU HAVE THE BIG PICTURE I know alot of people dont like my wanting to lose attitude but TANKING IS NECESSARY big time for us to get a FQB...and its a strategy FOR NOW ...NOT FOREVER Have anyone go 49 years without a SB and 8 with no playoffs and tell me they wouldnt want the same deal
Just a full on organizational failure from top down. How has Petty kept a roster spot all this time? Don't the Jets employ people whose job it is to evaluate the help? There is no way he just magically became the most abysmal quarterback in Jets history this weekend. Why isn't someone accountable for how bad this kid is?
Dont give up so fast on Rosen or D Have Mac earn his Salary and do his best at getting one Give up first rounders..mortgage the future BTW what future do we have if we have nothing worth losing???
Why was he drafted in the first place? Who told Macc that Petty was NFL material? Why draft a Qb in the 4th round anyway if he wasn't good enough to draft in the 2nd or 3rd? Could we have used that 4th rd pick on a center??? Hell, is Macc that f'n QB stupid? If he is, he shouldn't be allowed in the draft room until the 3rd round at the earliest. Let Morton and Bowles do the drafting. Send Macc out for coffee.
We didn't need the new and improved McCown.. We needed the McCown we all knew prior to 2017. Those 5 MEANINGLESS wins are gonna bite us in the ass big time on draft day.
Same Ol Jets once again - poor coaching - no franchise QB - no pass rush and ending up with one of the lowest sack totals in the NFL - so-so defensive backs that never seem to get Ints or pick 6s - win too many games to get a shot at one of the top QB talents Same as it ever was - looking forward to more of the same next year only with the added bonus of a new QB prospect that is bound to suck (that they will take in the second round as the 1st round pick will be spent on a defensive lineman to replace Wilkerson)
I honestly don't get all the love for Morton... the guy has made some seriously stupid play calls. I'm not saying he can't develop but some of you guys are calling for him to be a HC... that's just ridiculous.
