Not this year but Morton might just be the best reason to keep Bowles another year and then possibly. Next year you have Morton take over.

Bowles has this team playing as a family group. They are getting better every game. There is no way he shouldn't be back next year. And Morton deserves to come back too. Sure, I'm not in favor of running every 1st down as a RB into the line. He has to mix that up, but so far it looks good.

I'm not even a Bowles guy but he's not getting fired this year. In fact, I can see a multi year extension for both him and Macc happening. People need to stop with the fire Bowles nonsense at least until he warrants it and so far in 2017, he hasn't.

I agree that he will likely be retained but he hasn't warranted an extension and I wouldn't prematurely reward someone with an extension when we haven't gone to the playoffs under neither Bowles or Macc.

In Macc's case - Get me a franchise QB and then we can talk extension

In Bowles case - have your team play more consistently week in and week out, stop being oblivious to obvious in game situations. Do better with adjusting your game plan on the fly and start focusing on getting rookies more time and not the veteran who has half a tank left.

If they can get this by 2018 and we go to the playoffs, then by all means extensions are warranted. For now, I'm cool with them coaching for their jobs in 2018

You have to take into account just how low the bar was set by Chris Johnson. Remember, he didn't say Bowles had to WIN, he said the team had to COMPETE and so far, the team for the most part has done exactly that. The only expectation the Jet Ownership had was that the team couldn't be the worst team in the league. There was no other mandate. Since the Jets have won 5 games, that should be good enough for Bowles not only to retain his job, but be given a lot more time. Not making the playoffs doesn't matter to the only people that do matter. That would be Chris and Woody Johnson.

For fans not being in the playoffs for almost a decade is a very very bad streak to uphold. I can see your angle of garnering an extension for surpassing expectations but I would argue that rewarding someone for meeting low expectations is why we've reached this point to begin with. If we reward mediocrity, we'll continue to be just that, mediocre.

I would rather Bowles and Maccagnan work under the pressure of knowing the job is not done, rather than they be rewarded for not taking this team to the playoffs and also having a losing record during their tenure. I also know the damage done by prior regimes is hard to overcome in such a short time, but both Macc and Bowles have not done enough to overcome the shortfalling of prior regimes to make me give them the guarantee and money, rewarding them for playoff appearances and championships they haven't made.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I like the direction of the team and like the core, but I can't bring myself to put my confidence in them long term until I see them taking that next step by securing a FQB and suring up the in game shortcomings.

We are the best at mediocrity lol, but we need to snap out of it. Jets fans deserve better than a yearly middle of the road kind of team.
