I'm just guessing, but just before the punt, #45 Rontez Miles signals to the punter by brushing both hands down his chest. To me it looked like a signal to go with the fake punt. The NFLdotCOM vid doesn't show this, but the CBS Sports does.
Ima give a shout out to Darryl Roberts. Burris gave up the job and may not get it back anytime soon. Roberts has looked pretty good the last two weeks. We'll see how it goes on the road and when the competition keeps coming over time. Burris looks like he's lost his confidence, and is struggling. Ditto that with Wesley Johnson. Except that Johnson has improved steadily since the '16 pre-season when he had a rough start. Him, Carpenter, and Winters were taking it to them as a team in the middle of the line on the runs.
What's that have to do with Edwards? He consistently shanks punts and occasionally booms one. The opposite of Wing.
I may be wrong, but except for a little last week, I don't think Lee has been used to rush the QB. I think he's been dropping into coverage. I think Jenkins will be more effective across from a fast edge rusher. He wasn't a big sack artist at UGA. The Jets added him more to set the edge and stopping the outside run. Adams and Maye have been used a little to rush, but Maye is primarily the deep Safety, our last line of defense. Adams has been used in a lot of ways on D, but not that much as a pass rusher. Hence I don't think the problem is that those higher draft picks aren't doing their jobs, but rather Bowles' D and how he uses them.
If he shanked most of them his average would be much lower. he's at 46.1 ranking him average. he's also tied for 2nd in the NFL for punts inside 20 with 10. half his punts have pinned teams inside the 20 which also lowers average as he has to let up and not let it go into the endzone. he's only had 1 punt go into the end zone. he also has the longest punt in the NFL currently this season. it's pretty rare but that's on bowles. he needs to dial up more blitzes. in the miami game lee was in the backfield a lot. adams is used everywhere. he's a CB/SS/FS/LB
He consistently shanks punts in big spots. I wouldn't care if he was a consistently average punter all the time. His Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde punting that gets to me. Shank, shank, boom. We need more boom, boom, boom, than shank.
so wing shanking a punt that cost them the game is ok though? People are too unrealistic when it comes to our players. If they aren't booming 60 yards punts every time, throwing for 400 yards a 4 TDs, or rushing for 200 yards a game they suck in most fans eyes
Wing is one of the best in the NFL and shanked a punt that cost them a game. lac having a shank here or there doesn't make him bad. His punt pinning them inside the 5 probably was a huge factor we won that game at jax plus the fake punt that he completed.
I don't care that Cantanzaro kicked the game winning FG. I don't like him on my team. I don't care that Lach Edwards kicked a 70 yard punt late. I don't like him on my team. Please football gods stop letting bad football players redeem themselves with fools gold late in the game.
Adams is the best safety on the team. When they move him up in the box, he's the best linebacker on the team. When they rush him on the edge, he's the best pass rusher on the team. For that reason, they should continue to use him everywhere.. in my opinion
The truth is out. There's no sense in denying it. This is a home run draft. Can everyone see as plainly as I can the difference between this draft and the 2016 draft? Last year's draft is garbage. This draft will likely end up being comparable to the 2006 draft. 2006 was the last great draft the Jets had. The 2nd round curse is also over. Marcus Maye is a very good player that has pro bowl potential. Does everyone see the importance rookies play each and every year? Does everyone realize that drafting projects like Darron Lee is not only dangerous in the short term because you're certain to never get any benefit from that player in their rookie season, but he's also way too undersized and must gain weight in the long term? And even then you'll never know if after he gains the weight that he'll be able to maintain his quickness and speed? Bottom line is Darron Lee was a complete waste of time and like taking the 20th overall pick and flushing it down the toilet. I would imagine when all is said and done, Jordan Jenkins will end up being a better player than Darron Lee. But back on Mac and this draft, if he can string together a few more we will be SB contenders by 2019.
I also would not have put McCown on the dud list. If not for him and his willingness to do anything necessary to win running with the football and diving for 1st downs we would not be 2-2. He's got real grit and determination.
