Some options to consider: Darrell Bevell - Seahawks offensive coordinator since 2011 Yardage ranks w/ Seahawks - 28th, 17th, 17th, 9th, 4th, 12th Mike Shula - Panthers offensive coordinator since 2013 Yardage ranks w/ Panthers - 26th, 16th, 11th, 19th Todd Haley - Steelers offensive coordinator since 2012 Yardage ranks w/ Steelers - 21st, 20th, 2nd, 3rd, 7th Steve Sarkisian - new Falcons offensive coordinator, formerly Alabama's coordinator David Shaw - Stanford head coach (65-17) Mike McCoy - Broncos offensive coordinator, Chargers head coach 2013-2016 Yardage ranks w/ Chargers - 5th, 18th, 9th, 14th Scott Linehan - Cowboys offensive coordinator/former Lions offensive coordinator Yardage ranks w/ Lions & Cowboys - 26th, 17th, 5th, 3rd, 6th, 22nd, 5th I really would prefer to not get yet another first time head coach promoted from a coordinator spot. That's why I sort of like Haley, Linehan or McCoy on their second go around. McCoy's Chargers teams got killed with injuries and poorly timed turnovers, not to mention the franchise moving. Haley is a hot head and coming from my Steelers fan friend, he strongly disliked him in the beginning until he and Ben started gelling. Now he is extremely innovative with the way he makes sure he gets the ball in the hands of his best playmakers. Linehan was 11-21 as the Rams head coach. That franchise was pretty beat for talent though. He's also worked under Jason Garrett for the past two years and he's a damn good offensive mind, not to mention he aided in the development of Matthew Stafford. I'll add some more as I look deeper into it. Throw some names out there.
I stilll like Brian Kelly.Hes had great success every where he's been..he knows QBs,knows talent & wont be pushed around by the NY media.I do worry about him having schiano/Petrino/Sabine syndrome wherein he doesn't have the personality to handle pro players but I'd be willing to take the chance. Of the more experienced candidates I guess I'd lead towards Haley.Hes a hot head sort of guy but he has strong ties here & knows offense. He's passionate & hates losing the same way this fan base does.Additionally if it ends up being Darnold at QB I'd like somebody in charge w familiarity w that type of skillset as he did w Big Ben. I don't think McCoy is built for this market..not a strong enough personality & just seems like more of a west coast guy. Though admittedly any offensive mind tied to the Chargers interests me bc they traditionally scout offensive skill as well as anyone.Clearly that's something the jets scouting dept needs some help w The Scott linehan era w the Rams was absolutely horrible.He lacks the personality & leadership to be head coach.Hes much better suited in an offensive coordinator/assistant head coach type of role,in my opinion.

What's your cut off before someone who hasn't been coaching for years shouldn't be a candidate. Why not list Parcells, Vermeill, and John Madden if you are going to list Gruden and Cowher?

Because we keep hiring terrible head coaches. I'm all for letting a coach weather the storm through a shitty year. But not when in year 3 he still can't do basic math in figuring out when to go for one or two point conversions.
Don't see a realistic shot at him but I would love Josh McDaniels. We need an innovative offensive mind.
I didn't get to see the game..tons of errands getting ready for a close friend's wedding followed by possible CAT duty in FL(P&C insurance) I was able to pay close attention to the game thread..for those still defending Bowles.. In year 3..when exactly does the "Good" Todd Bowles kick in?We certainly haven't seen anything beyond a flash in the pan thus far
