"Just about every year I talk about coming back to coach," he said. "I'm not in here every day at 4:30 or 4:00 in the morning watching pinball, you know? I'm preparing myself to come back. I am. Every day. I'm preparing to come back." - Jon Gruden 7/28/17 I think there's a few fair point to consider when weighing this option. - Woody has never been afraid of throwing money at a situation. So salary would be a non issue. - As bad as the team in theory could be this year there is an immense amount of young talent, a team he could mold into what he see's fit. (blank slate) - Not to get too far ahead of myself and the outcome of this year, he really liked Hack in Gruden's QB Camp for what that's worth. - The Jets will have one of the highest salary caps in the league next year, with room to improve. - John Morton is a former disciple of Gruden's. Morton being someone Gruden has spoken very highly of and would already have a familiarity with the team and might be part of swaying him to join. Getting Gruden is something that would be a dream scenario for the team and us fans, the question is would he be interested in it?
He doesn't, it's a just a show. I'm sure he walks away from those things grumbling under his breath "this guy sucks, will never make it" plenty of times.
I met him and Mike Terico in AZ before a MNF game We were in same hotel Told him I'm a jet fan and would do anything for him He laughed at me and said don't ever bet your money on it Never gonna happen
You all do realize that he hasn't coached in this league since Brett Favre was the starting QB for the Jets, right? If you just want a guy with some experience and a ring, I understand John Madden, George Seifert, and Joe Gibbs are still alive and not coaching....what's the difference?
What is the big deal with him btw ? He won a superbowl yes but his overall record doesn't look fantastic ? Regular season: 95–81 (.540) Postseason: 5–4 (.556) Career: 100–85 (.541)
Exactly. Brian Billick has a SB ring and a better record, but nobody clamors for that guy. Regular season: 80–64 (.556) Postseason: 5–3 (.625) Career: 85–67 (.559)
I figured we would get dumb shit like this for Bill Cowhar, not one of the most overrated coaches of all time in Jon gruden lol Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
I hope not. If we replace Bowles lets get a modern day offensive minded HC... If one would even come here.
Really need the complete quote from Gruden. "All I really have going is football," he continued. "I don't know what I would do without it. I'm happy with what I'm doing. I study as if I am a coach. I still make my own breakdowns. I still come up with my own playbook—I just don't have anybody to give it to. It helps me in my broadcasting and I think if you lose that edge...you can't come back unless you are totally wired with college football, personnel, schemes, the CBA, how people are practicing, trends, you know," I don't foresee myself coaching anytime soon,"
Gruden would be better than Bowles, so there's that. But this would depend on whether Macc is being retained or not. If he is, I would want him to pick his own guy, for better or worse. But maybe he could work with Gruden, IDK. As much as I want Bowles gone, I really don't want to have to live with another guy who hasn't been a HC, unless he's one of the top OCs, then maybe.
Slim to none. Woody wouldn't want to give up final say/control, nor would he not like a pushover. This is the reason why we are constantly treading in and out rookie GM's and HC's. Unless being away from the team changes him, we will never have an experienced HC leading this franchise.
