    Cimini:
    "Confessions of a sideline reporter:
Yep, I was the guy who encountered a Hackenberg pass last week at practice. With a phone in one hand and a notebook in the other, I was able to use my forearm to block a low sideline pass that hit damp grass and skipped like a stone on water. End of story. Can we stop the hysteria, please?"

I'm not a Hack believer, but it's way too early to tell anything. From the limited reports and videos, I would say he's better than I feared, but hasn't shown anything to prove he can be a starting NFL QB, although based upon the amount of work he's being given, he's going to have an opportunity to prove that one way or the other by the time the season starts. I'm as desperate for the Jets to find their FQB as anyone, but panicking isn't going to produce one.

Well the news coming out of OTA is no encouraging. I mean how long do the Jets wait for this guy to be the guy? I just looked at McCown play from last year and really can Tankenberg really be worst than McCown? Accuracy problems usually do not get corrected think Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez (keeping the Jets themes going). I've seen in in baseball too. Pitsburgh Pirates Steve Blast was so dominant in the World Series then he could not find the strike zone if his life depended on it. Its more mental than physical in some cases. The Jets should not start McCown this season unless there are injuries. Its time to star pampering these young QB and the Jets need to see if they need to move to plan B and draft another one.

I just listened to a Hughes interview on the radio and he pretty much said that there's too much emphasis being put on his negative analysis of hack.

To paraphrase - he thinks that Hack has shown progress. Some dazzling throws and some terrible throws. Inconsistency being the biggest issue. He also qualified his statement by pointing out that these are only observations made in the 3 otas made public to the media.

Agreed, no matter what happens Hackenberg will be a media target throughout his career, whatever that career may be. I'm sure McCown and Petty, actually Im positive McCown and Petty have almost been intercepted and been intercepted during OTA's. They also missed throws to the sidelines but only Hackenberg will get the media glamor of it all. The kid does posses talent, and the truth is he is a second year QB that until recently did not receive many meaningful reps. A second year QB that needed to be rebuilt, which takes time but has shown he has put in the work and improved. MAY - JULY is a lifetime and if he keeps improving, will get to prove what he can do on the field. Players need time to develop .. usually three years .. look up any of our top Jets stats, and you will see the data right in front of your own eyes. If Hackenberg does get the nod, and shows he has the goods to warrant the Jets to allow him to continue progressing into next year, then that's what will happen, but FFS lets see what happens come camp and the preseason before giving up on the kid. Giving up on a player before they even play is ridiculous. Shame on everyone who just wants to thrash him for I told you so rights. He should be getting all our support as should Petty. If one of them succeeds, it could push our franchise over the hump into competitiveness faster then anticipated. If Hackenberg nor Petty look impressive enough at camp, and during the season .. we will be selecting a QB high in the draft. It's that simple ... and then we can start the whole process over again, as Jets fans, if the QB we select high in the draft doesn't come into camp looking like a Pro-Bowler.

Gotta keep progressing, I don't put much stock into the tds and ints, but the completions. He if continues to develop, he should be right there with McCown and there is no way you start McCown under that circumstance if it's close. If he shows consistency, it will be time to up the reps big time.

Also HUGE RAVES on ASJ by the media.

Looks like the reports are saying Hack was the most accurate QB today. If he makes everyone eat crow I'll be a lifelong fan even if he doesn't end up being the guy.

It's embarrassing how "journalists" cover our team.

Fingers crossed. Even if he looks very good I wouldn't be surprised if McCown starts the season with the idea of Hack picking it up after a few games. Actually that's what I want them to do. Let him stride into it easy. Of course that would lead to a cacophony of nonsense from the media. I'm really hoping to see him in there by week 5.
Whatever tho, half way thru the season we'll have a lot of answers

Long way to go for Hack, but consistent play in practice will do wonders for his confidence. Hopefully this is his shot.

I would like to see him start from the get-go if he continues to develop at this pace and play well in the preseason. I know it would be nice to put in Hack at a comfortable situation like wk5, but you might affect the chemistry in the locker room. I know it's harder to bench a young QB, but I think the Jets need to try and establish something early with Hack if they feel he can be the guy. Similar to Dak Prescott.

It prolly wouldn't matter much, but I'll be surprised if he starts. That's why I've considered it already, and I won't believe it necessarily means that Hack failed. Also, Dak stepped into a much better set of circumstances as far as the O talent. So, I'm not gonna take anything from it if Hack doesn't start right away. But I'm really looking forward to seeing him.
I would love nothing more than to see him look good out there. Whatever tho, just a thought

Absolutely understand your view as well, Dak did go into a better situation. Hopefully he continues to progress, but Bowles called McCown the Teacher, so I don't like the sound of that necessarily.

McCown only has 3 or 4 losses in him. We'll see one of the young guys at that point - probably both of them.

I'm kinda expecting that. If Hack takes off in camp in the pre-season games I'd be ecstatic. That's wishful thinking tho.

Mccown only has 2 wins in the last 3 years. How are you working your math?

I think he was figuring on McCown only playing 3 or 4 games to get his 3 or 4 losses.

Do you guys really want everyone to be homers? Let's call a rose a rose but we also should call a spade a spade. The rose-colored glasses always seem to get lost by about game three, anyway.
