I understand the purge of the roster , I dont exactly agree on how its being done in regard to Harris but I am reading how Steve Smith is saying the Jets reached out to Steve Smith to come out of retirement -------> after these latest moves this makes zero sense to me ? Unless Smith is making this up why on earth would the Jets reach out to him ?
They probably had a player coach role in mind. Aka mentor the locker room, don't play big snaps and kill your body.
Can't really figure this out without knowing when he was contacted. If it was recently, like last few days, that is strange and hard to understand the rationale behind it. If it was around draft time or earlier, were they thinking of band aiding the team together one more time? That's scary. Really need to know the time line on this one
Yeah, I don't get Mac's rationale behind this and the timing of the cuts. Was it just incase Decker wasn't healthy? But they wanted part ways with him anyway.
FJAY we would like to think they had a plan and that they knew which way they were headed long before the draft , preferably at the end of last season . PS I am not so sure that Smith is a guy / leader you want in your locker room as he has had his run ins in the past but thats another story. If the plan was to purge , get younger and cut salary Smith makes zero sense . Maybe more info will come out,,I hope so
I would definitely take smith to be in the wr room with these youngsters. He has had his problems, sure but the guy is a workaholic and I think would be a good example. I think he would relish the idea if he was still playing.Decker is a professional but not sure he is the "pay it forward to the kids" type I think smith is. Maybe that's what they were thinking? I don't know, definitely out of whack with everything else that's happened so far but sorta fits in with the way mccown is viewed, don't you think?
I know Mccown played with him so that could be it ? That said I would think Smith would want every ball thrown to him which would take away from the kids development . As far as Mccown , after all these moves I am thinking that signing him was not the best option , I mean I never really believed in the older guy mentoring thing when it comes to QBs. After all that logic never worked out for us before and if we are going to roll with the kids then Petty or Hack should be the day 1 starter and Mccown should be a cowboy right now ,,no ?
It's possible it happened around the same time Marshall requested his release. Before drafting 2 WRs and picking up several others. Before the green light was given for a full rebuild
I'm with you on mccown but it seems the league likes to do the mentor thing so.... like I said, a time line of events with this smith thing would help see what they were thinking
I wouldn't be surprised if Jets reached out months ago to kick tires. I don't see how they could have done this recently.
I thought it was pretty self explanatory ? His name is F JAY F ,,,,,been calling him that for years . Come to think of it I hope he does not mind but I think he is cool with it .lol
OH, I see. LOL I had never seen you call him that. I thought it was another thing like "LOL" or "FWIW" or "AFAIK".
It would make more sense to me if the Jets had their FQB in place. I, too, understand they want to create a different team culture with a younger squad creating new locker room leaders, yada, yada, however, you usually do that around a QB that you have faith can lead a team and be the face of the franchise going forward. If Hackenberg turns out to be that FQB, fine, but it's far from clear he will be. If he isn't, then you will have to retro fit a new QB into an already established culture. I hope they know what they are doing.
